Tether Gold has gained Shariah certification, giving Islamic banks, institutions, and investors a compliant way to access physical gold through blockchain. The approval confirms XAU₮ meets key Islamic finance rules, while expanding digital gold use across savings, trade finance, collateral, and regulated investment products in global Muslim markets worldwide today.
Tether Gold Receives Shariah Certification
Tether announced on July 27 that XAU₮, its gold-backed digital asset, received Shariah certification from Amanah Advisors, led by Mufti Faraz Adam. The certification confirms that the token aligns with core Islamic finance principles.
The approval gives Muslim investors a Shariah-compliant way to access gold through blockchain infrastructure. Tether said the certification bridges physical bullion ownership with digital asset rails.
Each XAU₮ token represents direct ownership of physical gold held in Swiss vaults. Tether said the structure avoids interest-based mechanisms, leverage, and speculative derivatives.
The certification also covers key requirements such as real ownership of physical gold, clear asset backing, and a transparent reserve structure. These points are central to the token’s use within Islamic finance.
Islamic Finance Access Expands for XAU₮
The certification may support wider use of Tether Gold across Islamic banking and investment services. Tether said XAU₮ could support digital gold products, takaful, halal savings, trade finance, and collateral applications.
Islamic banks may now explore tokenized gold products that remain linked to physical bullion. Institutions seeking compliant gold exposure may also use XAU₮ as part of regulated digital asset services.
Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino said, “Gold has always represented stability and trust across cultures and generations.” He added that XAU₮ now expands digital gold access while respecting Islamic finance principles.
The development also supports tokenized real-world assets as institutions search for blockchain-based products backed by tangible assets. XAU₮ gives users digital transferability while keeping the underlying link to allocated physical gold.
Tether Targets Wider Regional Adoption
Tether said the certification could support XAU₮ adoption in GCC countries, South Asia, parts of Africa, and global financial centers with Islamic finance desks. These regions have strong demand for gold and growing interest in digital finance.
Amanah Advisors will continue working with Tether on practical guidelines and governance frameworks. The work will focus on wider Shariah-compliant adoption, especially when users acquire XAU₮ through secondary markets.
Tether also plans multilingual educational resources and regional communication campaigns for institutional and retail users. These efforts aim to explain how XAU₮ can operate within Islamic finance structures.
One full XAU₮ token represents ownership of one troy fine ounce of gold on a London Good Delivery bar. The allocated gold carries a unique serial number, purity, and weight, and can be redeemed as physical gold.
