Strategy Inc. (MSTR) shares climbed 5.45% to reach $96.67 following the company’s announcement of an enhanced cash position and ongoing preferred stock buyback program. Meanwhile, leadership bolstered financial flexibility, preserved cryptocurrency assets, and advanced its refreshed capital deployment approach.
Cash Position Strengthens as Bitcoin Portfolio Stays Constant
Strategy expanded its cash holdings by $525 million, pushing the total to $3.75 billion for the week concluded July 26. Simultaneously, the corporation maintained its Bitcoin portfolio at exactly 843,775 BTC. This marks Strategy’s most extended period without cryptocurrency acquisitions in a two-year timeframe.
The business secured the majority of this additional capital through its at-the-market share offering program. Strategy distributed 5,429,160 common shares of MSTR between July 20 and July 26. These transactions yielded $544.5 million in net cash proceeds without necessitating any cryptocurrency liquidations.
Company leadership noted the current reserve provides coverage for roughly 2.1 years of preferred dividend commitments and debt servicing requirements. Annual financial obligations total approximately $1.76 billion according to company estimates. This enhanced liquidity position fortifies the balance sheet while enabling future strategic capital initiatives.
Preferred Stock Repurchase Program Advances Capital Allocation Goals
Strategy acquired 288,930 shares of STRC preferred stock throughout the reporting period for roughly $25 million. These purchases utilized funding from the corporation’s $1 billion Digital Credit Securities Repurchase Program. This leaves approximately $975 million remaining under the current authorization.
No repurchase transactions occurred for STRF, STRK, or STRD preferred securities during this timeframe. Similarly, Strategy abstained from acquiring any MSTR common stock. Management continues to hold the full $1 billion authorization available for potential common share buybacks.
STRC preferred shares have traded beneath their $100 par value following declines that began in mid-May. The securities changed hands near $88.61 during pre-market trading while showing modest improvement. This below-par pricing presented attractive opportunities for selective repurchases within the company’s capital management framework.
New Performance Metrics Highlight Per-Share Bitcoin Exposure
Strategy recently unveiled a refined performance indicator termed net Bitcoin per share. This updated metric deducts outstanding debt obligations and preferred commitments from total Bitcoin assets. The resulting figure offers a clearer picture of cryptocurrency exposure attributable to common equity holders.
The corporation also recalibrated its modified net asset valuation using this new methodology. Based on the revised formula, MSTR currently trades around 1.02 times net Bitcoin value. Additional common share issuances beneath this threshold would dilute per-share Bitcoin ownership.
Strategy implemented this current capital structure framework several weeks ago. The strategy permits up to $1.25 billion in potential Bitcoin liquidations if necessary for reserve management, dividend distributions, or buyback activities. Instead, the company has generated liquidity through equity sales while maintaining its complete Bitcoin position intact.
Executive Chairman Michael Saylor verified the most recent reserve enhancement following the regulatory filing’s publication. He confirmed that Strategy possessed 843,775 BTC in addition to the enlarged $3.75 billion cash reserve. The filing indicated the Bitcoin holdings carried an approximate market value of $54.36 billion, still below the aggregate purchase price of $63.69 billion.
Strategy further revealed significant remaining fundraising capacity across its at-the-market offering platforms. The business maintains $22.98 billion in available capacity under its MSTR common stock program. Additional unused capacity exists across STRF, STRC, STRK, and STRD issuance facilities, providing continued financing flexibility for future needs.
