T-Mobile US delivered its second-quarter 2026 financial report showcasing enhanced service revenue streams, strengthened profitability metrics, and superior cash flow performance. The wireless carrier upgraded specific cash flow forecasts while maintaining its customer acquisition targets. Despite these positive indicators, TMUS stock experienced a 6.13% decline, closing at $179.24.
Strong postpaid segment fuels revenue expansion and margin improvement
T-Mobile demonstrated continued momentum within its postpaid operations, driven by consistent account expansion and elevated customer revenue contributions. During Q2, the telecommunications provider registered 277,000 net postpaid account additions. This figure represented a decrease compared to the 318,000 accounts gained in the corresponding period last year.
Average revenue per postpaid account hit $152.91 throughout the quarter, marking a 2% year-over-year improvement. Following standard account base reconciliations, total postpaid accounts concluded the period at 34.7 million.
Service revenue performance remained particularly impressive across all business segments. Overall service revenue grew 9% annually, reaching $19.0 billion. More significantly, postpaid service revenue jumped 13% to $15.9 billion, demonstrating the combined impact of subscriber growth and enhanced account monetization.
Net income totaled $3.2 billion for the quarter, even after absorbing UScellular merger-related charges. Diluted earnings per share grew 5% to $2.99. The company’s Core Adjusted EBITDA demonstrated healthy expansion, rising 12% from the prior year to reach $9.5 billion.
Cash generation from operations showed notable strength during the reporting period. Operating activities generated $7.5 billion in net cash, up 7% year-over-year. Meanwhile, Adjusted Free Cash Flow grew 4% to $4.8 billion, even with increased infrastructure investments.
Capital expenditures climbed 13% to $2.7 billion, reflecting ongoing network enhancement initiatives. The carrier distributed $3.3 billion to shareholders via dividend payments and share buybacks. Additional share repurchases totaling $392 million occurred in Q3 through July 17.
Superior network quality and customer satisfaction drive competitive advantage
T-Mobile sustained its market leadership position through exceptional network capabilities and customer satisfaction achievements. The telecommunications giant posted a record wireless Net Promoter Score of 46 in the second quarter, establishing the highest rating among America’s three major wireless providers.
Multiple independent assessment firms validated T-Mobile’s network superiority across diverse measurement criteria. Ookla designated the carrier as the Best Mobile Network for an unprecedented third consecutive evaluation cycle. Additionally, Opensignal honored T-Mobile with top distinctions in quality metrics, overall network performance, and 5G user experience categories.
P3’s comprehensive second-quarter assessment crowned T-Mobile as its Test Champion. The company swept all 13 available recognition categories, including the prestigious AI Services Champion designation. These accolades reinforced management’s strategic emphasis on broadening wireless and broadband service capabilities.
T-Mobile emphasized its ongoing commitment to network infrastructure modernization and advanced technology deployment. Company leadership indicated these investments underpin sustainable growth objectives across consumer markets, broadband services, and developing enterprise solutions. Management also stressed the importance of strengthening customer relationships through enhanced service delivery standards.
The company preserved its postpaid net account forecast of 950,000 to 1.05 million additions for 2026. Core Adjusted EBITDA guidance remained unchanged at $37.1 billion to $37.5 billion. These projections aligned with earlier communicated expectations.
Upgraded cash flow targets underscore operational resilience
T-Mobile enhanced multiple financial outlook metrics based on second-quarter operational achievements. Operating cash flow expectations now range from $28.4 billion to $28.8 billion, representing a $200 million upward adjustment from prior guidance.
Adjusted Free Cash Flow projections similarly received a $200 million boost. The revised forecast now spans $18.4 billion to $18.8 billion. Anticipated capital spending remains steady at approximately $10.0 billion for fiscal 2026.
The carrier maintained its effective tax rate projection between 25% and 26%. Profitability expectations remained intact despite continued integration expenses stemming from the UScellular acquisition. While these costs impacted reported earnings figures, they did not alter fundamental operating performance forecasts.
T-Mobile’s Q2 results highlighted ongoing success in capturing premium customer accounts and driving service revenue growth. Robust cash generation capabilities enabled increased shareholder distributions and supported improved financial projections. Nevertheless, market participants responded unfavorably, driving TMUS shares downward following the quarterly disclosure.
