TLDR
- DeepSeek has introduced a 75% price reduction on its V4-Pro AI model, valid through May 5, 2026
- API input cache hit pricing has been reduced to just 10% of previous rates across all models
- The V4-Pro is available in two configurations: a full-featured Pro edition and a streamlined Flash option
- V4-Pro was engineered to work with Huawei’s chip infrastructure and delivers superior performance compared to competing open-source alternatives in global knowledge assessments
- These aggressive pricing moves reflect escalating competition in the global AI marketplace between Chinese developers and Western tech giants
Hangzhou-based AI developer DeepSeek has announced a dramatic 75% price reduction for its latest V4-Pro model, marking another significant move in the increasingly competitive landscape between Chinese and Western artificial intelligence firms.
The promotional pricing structure went live for developers last week and will remain available until May 5, 2026, at 15:59 UTC.
With the new pricing scheme, input costs for cache misses have been reduced from $1.74 to $0.435. Cache hit charges decreased from $0.145 to $0.03625, while output pricing saw a reduction from $3.48 to $0.87.
Beyond the V4-Pro discount, DeepSeek has implemented a 90% price reduction on input cache hit charges across its complete API portfolio. According to the company, this adjustment is now in effect and will deliver substantial savings for users making repetitive or similar API calls.
The V4-Pro rollout comes after an extended development period. The model was specifically optimized for Huawei’s semiconductor technology—a crucial consideration as American export controls have restricted Chinese firms’ access to US-manufactured chips.
Dual Configuration Strategy
DeepSeek’s V4 release includes two distinct configurations. The Pro variant delivers enhanced capabilities and carried a premium price point before the discount implementation. The Flash configuration offers a more lightweight, cost-effective alternative.
According to DeepSeek, the Pro configuration surpasses competing open-source models in global knowledge benchmark testing. Only Google’s proprietary Gemini-Pro-3.1 achieves better results in these evaluations.
The company positions the V4 family as purpose-built for AI agent applications. These advanced systems can execute more sophisticated operations than conventional chatbots, though they demand greater computational resources.
This pricing initiative arrives on the heels of DeepSeek’s R1 model debut, which sparked widespread price competition throughout the AI sector following its launch last year.
Industry-Wide Price Competition
As artificial intelligence companies transition from experimental phases to production-scale deployments of large language models, reducing operational and inference expenses has emerged as a critical competitive differentiator.
DeepSeek’s aggressive pricing strategy is anticipated to pressure competitors into implementing their own cost reductions, particularly within China’s market, where numerous companies are developing alternatives to Western technology platforms.
American technology export restrictions have accelerated this transformation, catalyzing the growth of independent AI ecosystems throughout China.
OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google have maintained a rapid cadence of model releases. However, premium pricing for accessing these platforms creates an opening for DeepSeek’s budget-friendly approach to gain market traction.
The 75% promotional discount on V4-Pro continues through May 5. The comprehensive API pricing reductions affecting DeepSeek’s entire model range are currently operational.
