Strategy Inc (MSTR) shares advanced 1.80% to $94.96 by 11:20 a.m. EDT, reversing early session declines. The upward movement came after the company revealed it had liquidated 1,638 Bitcoin, channeling the capital toward STRC preferred dividends and aggressive share repurchase initiatives. This development represents another evolution in Strategy’s treasury management approach as leadership navigates Bitcoin exposure, preferred equity commitments, and enhanced liquidity positions.
Bitcoin Liquidation Fuels STRC Dividend and Repurchase Programs
Strategy executed the Bitcoin sale during the week spanning July 27 through August 2, achieving an average exit price of $63,957 per token. The liquidation yielded $104.7 million in total proceeds, which management split evenly—directing $52.4 million toward dividends and $52.3 million toward STRC share repurchases. As a result, Strategy’s digital asset holdings declined to 842,138 Bitcoin, though the aggregate acquisition cost remained approximately $63.5 billion.
This latest divestment represents Strategy’s second-most significant Bitcoin sale recorded this year, trailing only a larger transaction executed on July 6. Previously, the company offloaded 3,588 Bitcoin for roughly $216 million and completed a smaller 32-coin sale during June. These transactions signaled a departure from the firm’s longstanding accumulation-only approach to Bitcoin treasury management.
Strategy implemented a more flexible capital allocation framework effective June 29, permitting Bitcoin sales to finance dividends, debt servicing, reserve building, and authorized buyback programs. Simultaneously, the company elevated STRC’s annual dividend rate to 12% as the preferred instrument continued trading beneath its $100 par value. Management subsequently refined this policy, incorporating additional considerations including market conditions, yield dynamics, volatility metrics, and liquidity factors into future dividend determinations.
Equity Offerings Strengthen Dollar Liquidity Position
Strategy simultaneously sold 3.01 million MSTR common shares throughout the reporting week, generating approximately $290.6 million in aggregate gross proceeds. The company allocated $250 million of this capital to its dollar reserve, pushing total available reserves to $4 billion by week’s end. An additional $28.9 million funded STRC repurchases, while the remaining $11.7 million supplemented general operating cash.
These coordinated transactions enhanced Strategy’s operational flexibility while enabling preferred stock payments without exclusive dependence on Bitcoin-collateralized financing mechanisms. Executive Chairman Michael Saylor disclosed that cumulative STRC repurchases reached $81.2 million throughout the complete weekly period. He further noted that the enlarged reserve extended Strategy’s dollar funding capacity by 57 days to approximately 2.3 years.
STRC continues serving as a cornerstone of Strategy’s financing architecture since the company leverages preferred securities to facilitate prospective Bitcoin acquisitions. Nevertheless, sustained market pricing below par value can diminish investor appetite and compress proceeds from subsequent STRC issuances. Consequently, Strategy has emphasized discounted buyback opportunities while preserving comprehensive cash coverage for dividends, interest obligations, debt servicing, and general corporate requirements.
