Key Highlights
- Retail holders offloaded 307K ETH during the past week, significantly exceeding the 82K ETH acquired by whales.
- Weekly spot ETH ETF capital inflows collapsed to $218.4M from the previous week’s $824M.
- Price action continues to reject the $2,544 resistance threshold across multiple attempts.
- Exchange withdrawals totaled over 116,000 ETH within a 48-hour window, tightening available supply.
- Critical support zone established at $2,475, representing approximately 2.86 million ETH in historical volume.
Ethereum currently hovers around the $2,495 mark and continues to face difficulty maintaining momentum above the $2,500 threshold. The primary obstacle preventing upward price movement stems from consistent retail distribution.

Addresses containing 1,000 to 10,000 ETH distributed 214K tokens throughout the previous week. Meanwhile, wallets in the 100ā1,000 ETH category unloaded an additional 93K ETH. Combined, retail participants dumped 307K ETH within this seven-day period.
The selling pattern suggests these holders are exiting positions near their original acquisition prices. On-chain data indicates their average cost basis rests at approximately $2,265, positioned just beneath recent consolidation levels.
Institutional and Large Holder Demand Weakens
Large holders ā addresses controlling between 10,000 and 100,000 ETH ā did accumulate during this timeframe, adding 82K ETH to their positions. However, this accumulation falls short of counterbalancing the selling pressure from smaller holders.
Investment product appetite has also declined. United States-based spot Ethereum exchange-traded funds recorded $218.4 million in inflows last week, representing approximately 74% decrease from the prior week’s $824 million. For context, Bitcoin ETFs attracted $986.9 million during the identical timeframe.
Market commentator Ted Pillows observed that buying interest has deteriorated across leading digital assets, beginning with Bitcoin before spreading to Ethereum. He suggested that renewed upward momentum remains achievable if demand resurfaces within several days, though warned a correction could materialize if recovery stalls.
Network activity metrics show daily active addresses on Ethereum have remained beneath 500,000 throughout September and currently trail last year’s equivalent period by over 5%.
Token Migration From Exchanges Provides Minor Relief
Market observer Ali Martinez documented that over 116,000 ETH departed centralized exchange platforms during the preceding 48 hours, representing approximately $300 million in value. Exchange-held balances declined to roughly 11.92 million ETH, marking the lowest level recorded since August 31.
Reduced exchange inventories limit the volume of tokens readily accessible for selling activity.
Analyst Crypto Patel highlighted that ETH remains confined within an established trading corridor, with overhead resistance positioned at $2,520ā$2,530 and downside support at $2,360ā$2,370. He indicated that a two-hour candle closure exceeding $2,530 would validate bullish continuation targeting $3,000, whereas failure below $2,370 introduces downside risk extending toward $2,000.
Ali Charts identified $2,475 as a crucial support foundation and emphasized that upside potential toward $2,722 remains viable provided this level holds. The more significant challenge emerges between $2,723 and $2,822, where historical data shows more than 10 million ETH changed hands.
Liquidation events totaled $39.5 million across the most recent 24-hour period, with short position closures accounting for $22.4 million of this figure.
The Relative Strength Index registers near 64 while ETH maintains positioning above all primary moving averages on daily timeframe charts.
