Coinbase Exchange was down for over two hours as an AWS outage disrupted trading access on May 7. Users reported trouble making transactions, while Coinbase said it was investigating the issue. The company also said customer funds were safe as Solana and ALEO transfers faced delays.
Coinbase Exchange reports transaction trouble
Coinbase first posted an investigation notice at 18:53 PDT. The company said customers may be unable to transact on Exchange. It also told users their funds were safe.
“We are aware that customers may be unable to transact on Exchange at this time.”
The issue continued into the evening as Coinbase shared another update at 19:38 PDT. That update linked the problem to an AWS outage. It said customers may see degraded performance during the service issue.
“We are aware that customers may be experiencing degraded performance at this time due to an AWS outage.”
The Coinbase Exchange down report came during a busy status period for the platform. Several market updates, token migrations, and transfer delays appeared on the same page. However, the Exchange issue was tied to AWS service trouble.
AWS outage linked to degraded Coinbase service
Coinbase directed users to the AWS service health page for more details. The company did not give a full cause in the status text. It said its team was investigating the matter.
The latest supplied update said Coinbase was still checking the issue. It did not state that the Exchange service had fully recovered. The notice also did not list a final fix time.
The outage lasted over two hours by the angle of the report. During that time, affected users faced problems when trying to trade on Coinbase Exchange. Coinbase repeated that customer funds were safe.
“Your funds are safe.”
The message gave users some basic assurance while the service issue remained active. Still, the notice showed that trading access was not normal. Coinbase said it would provide another update after its review.
Solana and ALEO transfers also delayed
Coinbase also reported delayed sends and receives on the Solana network. That notice appeared at 18:06 PDT on May 7. It said buys, sells, and fiat deposits or withdrawals were not affected.
A separate ALEO notice appeared at 18:03 PDT. Coinbase said some users may face delayed sends and receives for ALEO. The company again said fiat services and trading actions were not part of that notice.
These transfer delays were separate from the Exchange transaction issue. However, they appeared close to the AWS-related update. The status page showed several services had alerts during the same period.
Coinbase also listed other market and asset notices. These included KAIO-USD and BILL-USD market openings. It also listed DAI, TRU, TIME, SEAM, RONIN, and other asset changes.
The DAI notice said Coinbase supported a migration from DAI to USDS. The TRU notice said Coinbase disabled trading before a migration deadline. TIME and SEAM also had future trading suspension dates.
For Exchange users, the main issue remained trading access during the AWS outage. Coinbase said it was aware of the problem and was investigating. The company asked users to follow status updates for more information.
