Police from China, the United States and the UAE have carried out a joint crackdown in Dubai. The operation targeted crypto romance scams linked to telecom and online fraud groups.
According to Chinese state media reports, officers dismantled nine alleged fraud compounds. They also arrested 276 suspects during the operation.
Joint Dubai Raids Target Crypto Romance Scam Networks
The operation marked the first joint law enforcement action by China, the US and the UAE against such groups. Authorities focused on fraud sites in the Dubai area.
Police said the suspects ran telecom and online fraud schemes from several locations. The groups allegedly used social media to contact potential victims.
Investigators said the suspects built fake romantic relationships to gain trust. They then directed victims toward fraudulent cryptocurrency investment projects.
The schemes are often called “pig-butchering” scams. In these cases, fraudsters spend time building trust before asking victims for money.
Suspects Accused of Promoting Fake Crypto Investments
Authorities said the suspects promoted “so-called high-return cryptocurrency projects” to victims. The projects were not real investment channels, according to the report.
Victims were allegedly told they could earn strong returns through digital assets. However, the money was taken through fraud platforms.
The Ministry of Public Security said the groups caused financial losses to victims. It did not give a total loss figure in the public report.
A ministry spokesperson said the operation was an “important achievement” in China’s international police cooperation. The spokesperson also said China would deepen cooperation with more countries.
China Calls for Wider Global Action Against Telecom Fraud
The Dubai crackdown follows China’s recent calls for stronger global action against telecom fraud. In March, China shared anti-fraud progress at the 2026 Global Fraud Summit.
The Chinese delegation included representatives from the Ministry of Public Security. They discussed ways to build a global law enforcement cooperation platform.
Officials said telecom fraud harms people across borders. They also said international police work is needed because many gangs operate outside victims’ home countries.
Chinese police said they would continue joint crackdowns with other countries. They also said they would target fraud dens and arrest telecom fraud suspects.
