Cerebras Systems (CBRS) shares advanced 7% during Tuesday’s session, hovering around $211 after reaching an intraday peak above $210. This upward momentum extends a rally initiated on Monday, propelling the stock back toward a price range it has repeatedly tested throughout the late summer months.
The stock’s appreciation coincides with an announcement that Cerebras will provide its wafer-scale computing infrastructure to Gimlet Labs, an emerging cloud computing platform. This partnership focuses on delivering exceptional AI inference performance, with speeds reaching 3,000 tokens per second.
CBRS Approaches Critical Resistance Zone
For the past two months, Cerebras shares have oscillated within a defined trading channel, with support around $167 and resistance near $260. The lower boundary has successfully defended against three separate tests since the final weeks of July.
The upper boundary has twice rejected breakout attempts, with both efforts reversing course within 48 hours. Positioned centrally within this range is the $219 level, which has previously served as a pivot point for the stock.
Currently, CBRS trades above both its 20-day and 50-day moving averages, indicating the recent advance has underlying trend momentum rather than representing an isolated price jump.
Should the stock penetrate the $219 barrier, it would establish a clearer trajectory toward retesting the $260 resistance ceiling. Considering CBRS’s historical volatility, such a retest could materialize rapidly.
However, previous price action warrants prudence. Earlier approaches to $260 resulted in abrupt reversals instead of sustained upward movement.
Partnership With Gimlet Labs Explained
Gimlet Labs plans to integrate its inference cloud platform with Cerebras‘ specialized hardware infrastructure. The partnership aims to launch its inaugural data center implementation before year-end.
Reports indicate the agreement encompasses a prospective 100-megawatt customer obligation. This represents a strategic expansion for Cerebras beyond its core AI model training business.
Analyst sentiment toward Cerebras remains predominantly bullish. The equity holds a “Moderate Buy” consensus among Wall Street researchers, with average price projections reaching $299.90.
Craig Hallum and TD Cowen both initiated coverage with bullish ratings in June, establishing targets of $325 and $275 respectively. Citigroup adjusted its outlook from $340 down to $320 in August while maintaining its buy recommendation.
The company has faced challenges. Cerebras reported an August quarterly loss of $2.98 per share, significantly exceeding the anticipated $0.21 loss.
Quarterly revenue reached $209.87 million, representing a 74% year-over-year increase. Despite the robust revenue expansion, shares declined following the earnings announcement.
Executive stock disposals have garnered market attention. CEO Andrew Feldman liquidated 237,559 shares in August at an average of $199.27, totaling over $47 million.
CTO Sean Lie executed a sale of 120,000 shares for approximately $25.1 million through a pre-established trading arrangement. COO Dhiraj Mallick disposed of shares valued at $8.6 million during the same period.
Collectively, company insiders sold over 1.4 million shares last quarter, representing nearly $300 million in value. Despite this activity, multiple hedge funds established new positions in Cerebras throughout the second quarter, including Silicon Valley Capital Partners and IFP Advisors.
The 50-day moving average for Cerebras stock currently stands at $203.85. The company maintains a minimal debt-to-equity ratio of 0.02, combined with a robust current ratio of 5.82.
