Anthropic has filed a prospectus for its planned initial public offering, giving investors a first look at its finances. The document covers revenue, losses, spending plans and risks.
The AI company reported $16.3 billion in revenue in the first half of 2026. That compares with $1.1 billion in the same period last year.
Anthropic lost $80.7 billion in the six months ended June 30. About $72 billion of that came from accounting charges tied to financing instruments.

Spending Plans and Risk Factors
Anthropic has commitments to spend about $500 billion on data center capacity over the next five years. It is negotiating for $250 billion more.
The company is expanding data center capacity internationally. It says the move is meant to diversify its infrastructure and reduce concentration risks tied to its computing operations in the United States.
The prospectus includes a 94-page Risk Factors section. It warns that advanced AI systems could pose catastrophic or existential risks to society if they are not developed and deployed responsibly.
The company said the potential harm from misaligned or misused models grows as systems become more capable. Researchers and policymakers have raised similar concerns.
CEO Dario Amodei has spoken about curing cancer and powering 20% annual GDP growth. He has also declined to rule out the possibility that AI development could end in human extinction.
Some analysts believe Anthropic is trying to encourage regulations that would box out competitors. Barron’s reported last month that Amodei has voiced deep concerns about AI for years.
Competition and Latest Results
Analysts and investors wanted to know how Anthropic views open-weight models. These models can be downloaded and run on a user’s own hardware, and they are typically cheaper than Anthropic’s proprietary models.
Anthropic acknowledged that open-weight or open-source models may capture part of the market for certain uses. It said this could put pricing pressure on its offerings.
The company plans to respond by building models with the strongest performance and reliability in the industry. It said it must keep investing in research and development.
Anthropic added that there is no guarantee those investments will produce products customers prefer. Customers could choose rival offerings instead.
Revenue grew 45% from the prior quarter to $16.8 billion in the quarter ended Sept. 30. That growth rate is down from a 140% jump in the previous quarter.
