TLDR
- Eli Lilly shares advanced 0.62% following the unveiling of Phase 3b exploratory findings at a dermatology conference.
- Dual-drug regimen modified 482 proteins compared to 140 proteins altered by Taltz monotherapy at Week 36.
- Combined therapy influenced expression of 467 genes, while single-agent treatment affected just 16 genes.
- Patients receiving both medications experienced enhanced skin improvement and greater weight reduction by Week 36.
- Safety profile remained consistent with individual drug profiles, though no new indication has been approved.
Shares of Eli Lilly and Company climbed 0.62% to reach $1,176.80 during Friday’s trading session, reflecting a $7.20 increase. The pharmaceutical giant disclosed fresh Phase 3b exploratory data revealing that patients treated with both Taltz and Zepbound experienced substantially broader molecular and biological changes. These findings build upon previous evidence demonstrating enhanced psoriasis symptom relief and body weight reduction in adults managing both psoriasis and obesity.
Eli Lilly Unveils Expanded Phase 3b Data on Dual Therapy Approach
Eli Lilly disclosed new exploratory data from the TOGETHER-PsO Phase 3b study, which evaluated the combined administration of two approved medications. Scientists compared outcomes between patients receiving both Taltz and Zepbound versus those treated with Taltz as monotherapy. Study participants included adults diagnosed with moderate-to-severe plaque psoriasis who also had obesity or were overweight with at least one additional weight-related comorbidity.
The recently presented analysis revealed substantially more extensive alterations in protein expression and gene activity among individuals receiving dual therapy versus monotherapy. At the 36-week mark, scientists documented modifications to 482 distinct proteins in participants on combination treatment, compared to just 140 proteins in those on Taltz alone. Gene expression patterns showed even starker differences, with 467 genes displaying altered activity under dual therapy versus merely 16 genes affected by monotherapy.
These molecular differences emerged as early as Week 12 of the trial, according to the company’s latest data release. Scientists also observed more pronounced decreases in inflammatory immune markers throughout the study duration among dual-therapy participants. The pharmaceutical manufacturer shared these results during the 2026 Fall Clinical Dermatology Conference held in Las Vegas.
Dual Medication Regimen Delivers Superior Clinical Outcomes
The newly released data complement earlier efficacy findings that demonstrated superior clinical responses in participants administered both medications simultaneously. By Week 36, the dual-therapy approach produced notably better skin clearance alongside significant body weight loss compared to Taltz monotherapy. Additionally, study participants sustained or further enhanced these clinical improvements through Week 52, according to Eli Lilly’s earlier published results.
Researchers also conducted specialized analysis of neutrophils, a type of white blood cell central to inflammatory immune responses. Data showed that combination therapy triggered more extensive modifications in inflammatory signaling pathways involving these immune cells. Statistical modeling suggested that changes in specific neutrophil-associated biomarkers partially accounted for the incremental improvement in psoriasis severity measurements observed in the combination-treatment cohort.
The TOGETHER-PsO investigation enrolled 274 adults at various research sites, with participants randomized evenly into two study arms. One cohort received Taltz monotherapy, while the second cohort received both Taltz and Zepbound via subcutaneous injection. All participants additionally received standardized counseling on dietary calorie restriction and increased physical exercise throughout the trial duration.
Eli Lilly Investigates Intersection of Metabolic and Inflammatory Disease
Eli Lilly structured the trial to explore connections between metabolic dysfunction and chronic inflammatory dermatological conditions. Company data indicate that roughly 61% of U.S. psoriasis patients also have obesity or excess weight accompanied by at least one additional weight-related health complication. These findings contribute valuable insights into how therapies targeting distinct biological mechanisms might collectively influence both disease states.
Taltz functions by inhibiting interleukin-17A, a signaling molecule involved in inflammation and various immune-mediated inflammatory disorders. Zepbound activates GIP and GLP-1 receptor pathways, which help modulate hunger signals and facilitate weight management in appropriate adult populations. Because these medications operate through distinct biological mechanisms, researchers sought to investigate potential synergistic clinical benefits.
Eli Lilly stated that the safety data from the combination therapy aligned with the known safety characteristics of each individual medication. These exploratory findings do not constitute regulatory approval for a new combined indication. The company is continuing to investigate relationships between immune system function and metabolic pathways as scientists explore comprehensive management strategies for psoriasis.
