The popular trading platform Robinhood has revealed its intention to bring crypto perpetual futures trading to qualified users across the United States. The disclosure came during the company’s HOOD Summit event held on September 29.
This upcoming offering will enable traders to establish both long and short positions across eight different cryptocurrency assets. The lineup comprises Bitcoin, Ether, Solana, XRP, Dogecoin, ADA, LINK, and HYPE.
The maximum leverage available for Bitcoin and Ethereum positions will reach 10x. Meanwhile, the remaining six digital assets will be restricted to 3x leverage ratios.
According to Robinhood’s announcement, traders will pay just 0.01% per executed trade until 2026 concludes. The company has not specified a precise launch timeline, indicating only that deployment will occur within the next several months.
Unlike traditional futures, these instruments have no expiry dates. CEO Vlad Tenev described them as “America’s first true perps” in an X platform post, noting that settlement of gains and losses will occur every quarter hour.
Traders will have the capability to configure stop-loss and take-profit parameters. Additionally, they can monitor liquidation thresholds in real time and receive notifications when positions face liquidation risk.
Perpetual Futures Make Their US Debut
American financial regulators established clearer guidelines for these instruments during the current year. In late May, the Commodity Futures Trading Commission granted approval to KalshiEX for a Bitcoin-based perpetual contract classified as a futures instrument.
The regulatory body also indicated that additional perpetual contracts would typically undergo individual assessment. Robinhood’s announcement did not reference any particular regulatory decision as precedent.
The contracts will become available through Robinhood Derivatives, which holds registration as a futures commission merchant. Bitstamp, the cryptocurrency exchange Robinhood acquired for $200 million in 2025, will provide the underlying infrastructure.
The company already provides comparable perpetual instruments across European markets via Bitstamp. Those European contracts initially featured more conservative leverage restrictions compared to the proposed US offering.
Continuous Stock Trading And AI-Powered Automation
The trading platform is also developing continuous 24/7 market access for a selected group of US equities and exchange-traded funds. This weekend trading capability is projected for early 2027 and awaits regulatory authorization.
The new service expands upon Robinhood’s current extended hours infrastructure. That existing framework already operates from Sunday evening through Friday evening, covering hundreds of stocks and ETFs.
Chief Brokerage Officer Steve Quirk emphasized that market-moving news doesn’t adhere to traditional trading schedules. Bruce ATS, functioning as an alternative trading system, will facilitate these weekend trading sessions.
Additional schedule modifications are coming this autumn as well. Beginning in October, options trading windows will expand to operate from 7:30 a.m. until 4:15 p.m. Eastern time.
Qualified margin account holders will also gain access to enhanced intraday purchasing power. This threshold will increase from 2x to potentially 4x starting next month.
Along with the trading enhancements, Robinhood unveiled Robinhood Agents. This functionality allows customers to construct personalized AI agents within the application for conducting research and executing automated transactions.
Over 150,000 users have established agentic trading accounts since a related capability debuted in May. According to Robinhood, these automated agents now interact with its platforms almost 30 million times daily.
A newly introduced feature named Loops will permit users to establish recurring directives for their agents. The agents will monitor market dynamics and complete transactions when predefined criteria are satisfied.
As of September 30, Robinhood has not provided definitive launch dates for either the crypto perpetual futures or the weekend stock trading platform. Both initiatives remain under development while awaiting additional regulatory procedures.
