The Zcash development community has confirmed November 5 as the anticipated date for implementing the NU7 mainnet upgrade, following complete consensus among participating organizations and technical teams regarding the upgrade’s specifications and deployment schedule.
According to developer Sean Bowe, the upgrade will first go live on the testnet platform on October 6. The final determination for mainnet deployment is planned for October 20, contingent upon successful testnet evaluation.
The NU7 implementation will compress Zcash’s block interval from 75 seconds to 25 seconds. Additionally, it will retire version 4 transaction support and incorporate the Network Sustainability Mechanism (NSM) framework.
The NSM framework maintains Zcash’s existing halving structure. Supply that was previously eliminated will be gradually reintroduced beginning in February 2031.
Bowe clarified that NU7 won’t introduce any novel transaction structures and should minimally affect wallet functionality. However, full node operators, indexing services, and blockchain explorers may require modifications.
The Zcash community demonstrated strong support for the upgrade through voting. The faster block time proposal received 99.9% approval, while 98.9% of participants voted to maintain the existing halving schedule.
ZEC Achieves Record Price Levels
ZEC experienced approximately 20% appreciation during Thursday’s trading session, establishing a new record high exceeding $1,480. Privacy-focused cryptocurrencies collectively outperformed the broader digital asset market, trading 213% above their levels recorded during Bitcoin’s October 2025 high, based on Glassnode analytics.

Market analyst Ali Charts highlighted the positive momentum on X, observing that ZEC “keeps pushing higher” and appears positioned to reach an initial target of $1,800, which he designated as the subsequent critical resistance level.
Currently, ZEC is changing hands above $1,400, significantly above its 50-day, 100-day, and 200-day exponential moving averages positioned at $869, $710, and $571 respectively. The SuperTrend indicator shows support established at $1,005.
Market Participation and Futures Market Analysis
Futures Open Interest expanded to 2.3 million ZEC on Thursday, up significantly from the previous day’s 1.76 million ZEC, which represented the lowest reading since August 10. This increase indicates heightened market engagement from retail traders.

The OI-Weighted Funding Rate has shifted into negative territory for approximately two days. This development indicates that long position holders are no longer compensating short sellers to maintain their positions.
The Relative Strength Index currently reads 71, indicating overbought conditions. Meanwhile, the MACD indicator remains positive, suggesting ongoing bullish momentum.
Critical support zones are identified at $1,400 and $1,200, with foundational support located at $1,005. The daily chart currently shows no significant resistance barriers overhead.
The conclusive decision regarding NU7’s mainnet activation block height is set for October 20.
