The warehouse retail giant Costco has announced a comprehensive delivery agreement with DoorDash, representing the platform’s inaugural nationwide collaboration with Costco in the United States. This partnership encompasses every one of Costco’s 639 American warehouse locations spanning 47 states.
According to DoorDash, Costco ranked among the most frequently searched retailers absent from its US marketplace. While the delivery service had previously operated Costco fulfillment in Australia, Sweden, and Puerto Rico, a comprehensive American partnership remained elusive until this announcement.
Members will have the ability to purchase groceries, home goods, and electronic products via the DoorDash platform. Access to this service remains exclusive to active Costco members, requiring them to connect their membership credentials with their DoorDash profile.
The warehouse retailer maintains approximately 81 million members globally, with the majority residing within United States borders.
Uber Eats Completes National Expansion
This DoorDash announcement arrives mere days following Uber Eats’ revelation of its own coast-to-coast Costco delivery expansion. Previously, Uber Eats had limited its Costco partnership to just 17 states following an agreement established in 2024.
Internationally, Uber Eats has maintained Costco delivery services in multiple markets including Japan, France, Spain, Canada, and Mexico. This American expansion aligns the domestic market with its established international presence.
For nearly ten years, Costco has maintained a delivery relationship with Instacart. The introduction of DoorDash alongside comprehensive Uber Eats availability provides members with expanded alternatives for home shopping convenience.
Implications for Delivery Services
Both DoorDash and Uber Eats have actively pursued expansion within the American grocery delivery sector. During the previous fall season, both companies secured partnerships with Kroger, America’s largest supermarket operator.
Integrating Costco into their US platforms represents significant progress in this strategic direction. Headquartered in Issaquah, Washington, Costco has built its reputation on bulk merchandise and warehouse-format retail locations.
DoorDash characterizes this partnership as groundbreaking for its US operations with the warehouse retailer. The delivery company operates from its San Francisco headquarters.
Neither Uber Eats nor DoorDash provided precise rollout schedules for achieving complete state coverage under their respective Costco agreements. Specific launch dates for individual markets remain unannounced.
These strategic alliances enable Costco to extend its delivery capabilities nationwide without investing in proprietary logistics infrastructure. Members gain access to their neighborhood warehouse inventory through two of America’s dominant delivery applications.
Costco’s pre-existing Instacart collaboration continues unchanged. The retailer now operates with three significant delivery partners providing nationwide service.
Both delivery platforms have been actively pursuing grocery sector dominance as consumer appetite for home delivery persists. Costco’s membership network numbering in the tens of millions presents both services with a substantial prospective customer base.
