Shares of Signet Jewelers experienced a significant 9% surge in premarket activity Wednesday following the release of quarterly results that exceeded Wall Street expectations and an upward revision to annual projections.
On an adjusted basis, the company reported earnings of $2.19 per share, significantly outperforming analyst consensus of $1.74. Revenue experienced a modest decline of less than 1%, totaling $1.53 billion and aligning with market forecasts.
The jewelry retailer posted a net income of $52.1 million, translating to $1.33 per share, marking a notable turnaround from the year-ago period’s net loss of $9.1 million, or 22 cents per share.
Management increased its full-year adjusted EPS forecast to a range of $10.45 to $12.25, representing an upgrade from the previous guidance of $9.20 to $11. The revised lower bound exceeds the Street’s expectation of $10.28 per share.
Chief Operating and Financial Officer Joan Hilson attributed the enhanced outlook to robust operational execution, expanded share repurchase activity, tariff reimbursements, and a newly structured consumer credit arrangement.
Comparable store sales advanced 2.2% during the quarter, outpacing Wall Street’s projection of 1.9%. Chief Executive Officer J.K. Symancyk highlighted “high single-digit unit growth at higher price points” as a significant contributor to performance.
Average unit retail prices increased approximately 6% across both the bridal and fashion jewelry categories. The expansion was primarily fueled by favorable pricing dynamics rather than volume increases.
Wall Street Perspective
Jefferies analyst Randal Konik emphasized that the quality of execution this quarter is more impressive than the headline figures alone. He characterized the results as demonstrating “compounding execution” rather than an isolated strong performance.
Konik expressed optimism about the company’s positioning entering the critical holiday shopping period, describing it as “a confident setup” given the guidance increase, expanded capital return program, and secured long-term credit partnership.
Strategic Credit Partnership and Capital Allocation
Signet extended its consumer credit partnership with Bread Financial, securing the arrangement through December 2035. The updated agreement incorporates enhanced technology capabilities, advanced data-driven marketing analytics, and upgraded customer service infrastructure.
The company intends to execute a $125 million accelerated share repurchase program. Hilson noted this decision underscores Signet’s robust cash generation and would elevate total capital returns year-to-date to approximately 12% of its recent market capitalization.
Signet maintained its full-year revenue guidance of $6.7 billion to $6.9 billion while tightening its comparable store sales outlook to a range of flat to up 2.5%, compared with the prior forecast of down nearly 1% to up 2.5%.
For the third quarter, management projected revenue between $1.37 billion and $1.41 billion, with comparable store sales expected to range from down 1% to up 2%. The analyst community currently anticipates $1.39 billion in quarterly revenue and 1.3% comparable store sales growth.
Prior to Wednesday’s trading session, SIG shares were marginally lower year-to-date, contrasting with a 12% advance in the S&P 500 index.
