Key Points
- On September 2, Farmmi’s stock price exploded by as much as 350%, jumping from a previous close of $0.12 to an intraday high of $0.50.
- The dramatic price movement was sparked by the debut of JINQIAN, a memecoin inspired by Farmmi’s mushroom product line, which launched on Robinhood Chain.
- An unofficial FAMI token was paired with JINQIAN, created by an unknown individual with no connection to Robinhood’s legitimate stock token program.
- The memecoin briefly achieved an estimated market value between $60 million and $70 million, approximately ten times greater than Farmmi’s pre-rally valuation.
- Both the stock and memecoin retreated sharply, with FAMI shares settling near $0.15 and the token plunging more than 90% from its high.
Farmmi (FAMI) experienced an extraordinarily peculiar trading session on September 2, 2026āone that unfolded without any corporate announcements, financial results, or business developments.
Shares began the day trading around $0.12, matching Tuesday’s closing level. However, by late morning, the stock had rocketed to $0.50ārepresenting an approximately 350% increase.
What drove this explosive move? A cryptocurrency meme token.
The token, dubbed JINQIAN after the “jinqian” or “money” mushroom variety sold by Farmmi, made its debut on Robinhood Chain. It was traded against an onchain token bearing Farmmi’s FAMI stock ticker.
In roughly sixty minutes, the memecoin’s market capitalization soared to an estimated $60-70 million, based on data from DexScreener and the blockchain tracking account Lookonchain. This valuation exceeded Farmmi’s actual pre-rally market cap by a factor of approximately ten.
The crypto market frenzy quickly spilled over into traditional equity markets.
No Official Connection to Robinhood Stock Tokens
The FAMI token traded alongside JINQIAN was not part of Robinhood’s authorized stock token ecosystem. An unidentified individual created it, and it had zero legitimate backing.
Genuine Robinhood stock tokensāsuch as those representing Nvidia or Micronāfeature a structured mint-and-redemption process. This unofficial FAMI token lacked any such framework, meaning the crypto trading had no actual connection to buying or selling shares of Farmmi on the Nasdaq exchange.
Farmmi issued no communications linking the business to the cryptocurrency. The stock’s surge was driven entirely by speculative momentum.
At least one participant profited handsomely. Blockchain transaction records reveal that an unidentified wallet invested approximately $19,000 in JINQIAN during the early stages, then liquidated the entire holding roughly one hour later for about $198,000ānetting a gain of around $178,600.
Most subsequent buyers weren’t as fortunate. The token’s value plummeted over 90% from its peak in just a few hours.
Trading Volume Reveals the Extent of the Frenzy
Farmmi typically sees approximately 5 million shares traded daily. On September 2, trading volume exceeded 720 million sharesānearly ninety times the normal activity level.
Farmmi operates as a small agricultural products enterprise based in China with only 15 employees. Prior to Wednesday’s session, the company’s market capitalization stood at just a few million dollars.
By the closing bell, the stock had surrendered the majority of its earlier gains. It finished the day around $0.15, representing a 27% increase from the previous close.
As of this writing, the JINQIAN memecoin is changing hands at roughly $0.0066, translating to a market capitalization near $6.6 million. This represents a dramatic decline from its fleeting $70 million valuation reached earlier during the trading day.
