Circle Internet Group has finalized an agreement to feature its USDC stablecoin brand prominently on Chelsea FC’s kit, debuting this Sunday as Chelsea welcomes Brighton to Stamford Bridge for their opening home Premier League match of the 2026/27 campaign.
Shares of Circle (CRCL) closed at $94.24 prior to the partnership announcement.
This landmark agreement positions Circle as the inaugural crypto financial services firm to obtain a principal shirt sponsorship with any Premier League organization. Earlier crypto sponsorships in England’s top flight have been limited to sleeve placements. OKX maintains a sleeve sponsorship with Manchester City, while Kraken holds a similar arrangement with Tottenham Hotspur.
Chelsea’s prime front-of-shirt space has remained vacant for three seasons. The club has actively pursued a sponsor to fill this prestigious position.
Reports indicate Chelsea aimed to secure £65 million ($88.3 million) per season for this prominent placement. Both Chelsea and Circle declined to disclose the deal’s financial specifics. By comparison, OKX’s Manchester City sleeve sponsorship reportedly commanded $70 million annually when signed in 2023.
Breaking New Ground in English Football
The USDC branding will be displayed across all team categories, including Men’s, Women’s, and Academy squads. With Chelsea Women relocating to Stamford Bridge this season, the brand visibility will extend significantly throughout the organization.
Circle CEO Jeremy Allaire described the collaboration as an organic alignment. “We built USDC on the belief that money should work seamlessly for everyone everywhere, the way the internet does,” he stated.
Chelsea President Jason Gannon characterized the partnership as advancing “football’s digital evolution.”
Regulatory Approval Smooths Path Forward
A critical factor enabling this seamless partnership: Circle has maintained authorization from the UK’s Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) via an e-money license obtained in 2016.
This regulatory standing carries significant weight, particularly after the FCA cautioned Premier League organizations in June regarding partnerships with unlicensed cryptocurrency entities, noting potential violations of financial promotion regulations.
Circle’s existing authorization addresses these concerns, positioning it as a more suitable partner for Chelsea compared to numerous other crypto enterprises.
USDC ranks as the second-largest stablecoin globally by market capitalization. The inaugural Premier League fixture showcasing the new kit takes place this Sunday when Brighton visits Stamford Bridge.
