The flagship UAE carrier Emirates has introduced Crypto.com Pay as a payment method for qualified residents booking travel through its digital platforms. This integration allows passengers to use cryptocurrency for ticket purchases while Emirates receives funds in United Arab Emirates dirhams. The new payment channel represents another step in Emirates’ digital transformation and Dubai’s broader movement toward electronic financial transactions.
New Cryptocurrency Payment Channel at Emirates
Travelers booking flights priced in UAE dirhams can now select Crypto.com Pay as their payment method. This functionality is exclusively available to qualifying UAE residents who maintain verified accounts with Crypto.com. The payment platform handles all cryptocurrency conversions and delivers the final settlement amount in the local currency to Emirates.
Users booking through the mobile app select the cryptocurrency payment option during the checkout sequence, then authenticate their transaction within the Crypto.com mobile wallet. Following payment approval, customers are redirected back to the Emirates mobile platform where they receive booking confirmation along with their digital ticket. This workflow maintains security within the user’s crypto wallet while preserving Emirates’ standard reservation process.
For those using desktop computers, the process involves selecting the crypto payment option and scanning an on-screen QR code with their Crypto.com mobile application. After authorizing the payment through their digital wallet, users return to the Emirates website to complete their reservation. Once Crypto.com validates the transaction, Emirates generates the booking confirmation and electronic ticket documentation.
Licensed Cryptocurrency Infrastructure in the UAE
The payment integration operates through Crypto.com’s regulated Dubai subsidiary, which holds authorization under the UAE central bank’s Stored Value Facilities regulatory framework. This license permits the platform to hold customer funds and facilitate digital transactions under governmental supervision. The arrangement enables cryptocurrency-funded transactions while ensuring merchants receive either dirhams or approved dirham-denominated payment instruments.
This payment architecture eliminates the need for Emirates to maintain cryptocurrency holdings in its financial records. Crypto.com handles all digital asset conversion processes and transfers the completed payment in AED currency. This framework minimizes Emirates’ direct exposure to cryptocurrency value fluctuations during the booking transaction period.
The payment service launch stems from a collaborative agreement signed between the two organizations in July 2025 to develop an integrated payment solution. Implementation teams finalized the deployment within twelve months of the original memorandum. Emirates now operates a compliance-approved cryptocurrency payment channel specifically for the UAE domestic market.
Advancing Dubai’s Digital Payment Vision
This cryptocurrency payment integration directly contributes to Dubai’s Cashless Strategy, a key component of the city’s D33 Economic Agenda framework. The emirate has established a target to convert 90% of both government and commercial financial transactions to digital formats before the close of 2026. Emirates has collaborated with Dubai Finance on multiple initiatives designed to accelerate digital payment adoption across the economy.
Crypto.com has established a separate partnership with Dubai Finance to facilitate cryptocurrency payments for designated public services. The Emirates flight booking integration extends the company’s payment technology into a prominent travel booking ecosystem. This deployment creates a direct connection between regulated cryptocurrency transactions and Dubai’s vital tourism and aviation industries.
Other carriers in the region have already implemented comparable digital payment systems as cryptocurrency adoption accelerates. Air Arabia introduced support for the AE Coin dirham-pegged stablecoin for flight reservations in May 2025. Emirates has not disclosed any intentions to expand Crypto.com Pay availability beyond eligible UAE residents at this time.
