ONDO Finance has introduced ONDO Network as its primary infrastructure for real-world asset operations. The platform will pivot away from developing ONDO Chain as an independent layer-1 blockchain. This strategic shift emerged from feedback gathered during conversations with institutional partners and trading venues, which emphasized the need for enhanced speed and confidentiality in trade execution.
ONDO Chain received its initial announcement in February 2025, positioned as an institutional-grade blockchain designed for tokenized financial instruments. The project advanced to testnet deployment, where JPMorgan’s Kinexys and Chainlink successfully executed a tokenized US Treasury transaction. CEO Ian De Bode characterized this transition as a natural progression and clarified that the two infrastructures would operate independently rather than simultaneously.
Trusted Execution Environments Power Confidential Trading
ONDO Network executes transactions within Trusted Execution Environments, referred to by the company as enclaves. These hardware-based secure compartments process trading activity while maintaining complete confidentiality around order details, position sizes, and participant identities. A distributed network of attestors validates the software operating within each enclave environment.
The architecture incorporates distributed key management, where cryptographic signing authority gets divided across multiple operators. This design prevents any single entity from unilaterally controlling user funds. Following trade matching and validation, settlement records get published to public blockchain networks. This approach maintains transparency for final transfers while preserving privacy throughout the execution phase.
ONDO Finance has yet to reveal the identity of participating operators or specify the total number of entities involved in network management. The company has provided no timeline for releasing these operational details. The existing framework therefore concentrates operational authority among designated participants rather than adopting a fully permissionless structure.
Perpetual Futures Platform Inaugurates Network Infrastructure
ONDO Perps operates as the inaugural application built on ONDO Network infrastructure. The platform enables continuous perpetual futures trading connected to tokenized equities and commodity instruments. This product provides ONDO Finance with an active marketplace for validating its execution framework and represents the network’s debut commercial offering.
By leveraging established public blockchains for settlement functions, ONDO Finance sidesteps the operational burden associated with building and sustaining a dedicated validator infrastructure. This approach allows the organization to concentrate resources on execution performance, privacy features, and service expansion across its real-world asset portfolio.
ONDO Finance indicated potential future enhancements including additional operator integration, expanded on-chain activity recording, and token-based collateral requirements for participants. No specific implementation schedule has been announced for these developments. The network roadmap includes support for Oasis Pro Markets, tokenized equity instruments, DTCC Tokenization Service connectivity, and collaboration with Japan’s SBI Group as the company builds out its institutional market capabilities.
