Shares of Amkor Technology surged 12.2% to reach $73.30 during after-hours trading on Thursday following the unveiling of a $1.5 billion strategic collaboration with Nvidia spanning multiple years. The semiconductor packaging specialist had concluded regular trading at $65.33, reflecting a 2.45% decline.
The agreement includes an advance payment from Nvidia designed to accelerate the development of Amkor’s sophisticated packaging and testing capabilities within the United States, particularly at its Arizona manufacturing site.
Both organizations plan to synchronize their extended technology development plans, emphasizing advanced interconnect density and emerging heterogeneous integration techniques — competencies becoming essential as artificial intelligence semiconductor requirements continue exceeding available production capacity.
According to Amkor CEO Kevin Engel: “This strategic partnership with NVIDIA underscores the central role advanced packaging plays in enabling the future of AI.”
The relationship between these companies isn’t new. Amkor has served as a trusted provider of sophisticated packaging solutions for Nvidia’s data center chips for years. However, this latest arrangement substantially deepens that existing partnership.
The revelation also complements Amkor’s June 2026 ten-year collaboration with TSMC focusing on advanced packaging operations in Arizona. When viewed together, these agreements with TSMC and Nvidia signal Amkor’s evolution from a conventional contract packaging provider to a critical partner in AI computing infrastructure development.
Financial Results Expected Monday
The company is scheduled to unveil its second quarter 2026 financial performance following the market close on Monday, July 27. During the first quarter, Amkor delivered results exceeding expectations on both top and bottom lines — revenues surpassed projections by 1.98% while earnings per share exceeded analyst forecasts by 37.50%.
The recently announced Nvidia arrangement provides enhanced revenue predictability as the company approaches its quarterly disclosure.
Wall Street Perspective
B. Riley Securities reaffirmed its Neutral stance on Amkor this Wednesday while adjusting its price objective downward from $90 to $75. This revised target now sits marginally above Thursday’s extended-hours trading level of $73.30.
The company commands a market capitalization of $16.19 billion. Over the past year, shares have traded between $20.87 and $96.66. The stock has appreciated 203.58% during the trailing twelve months.
Technical indicators show an RSI reading of 43.11, with shares currently positioned at 58.66% of their annual trading range.
Broader equity markets exhibited modest gains Thursday, with the S&P 500 advancing 0.2%, the Dow Jones climbing 0.5%, and the Nasdaq rising 0.2% — movements that don’t account for the magnitude of Amkor’s after-hours rally.
The advance payment arrangement with Nvidia delivers both financial predictability and strategic endorsement for Amkor’s domestic manufacturing expansion initiative as Monday’s quarterly results approach.
