Key Highlights
- Bitmine acquired only 7,430 ETH (approximately $14M) during the previous week, marking one of the company’s most modest weekly acquisitions since implementing its Ethereum treasury initiative
- The reduced acquisition rate coincided with the company’s repurchase of 5.5 million shares at a mean price of $15.62 as part of its $4B stock buyback initiative
- The company’s Ethereum reserves have reached 5.78 million ETH, valued at roughly $10.9B, accounting for 4.8% of total available supply
- Bitmine’s aggregate assets reached $11.5B as of July 19, encompassing Bitcoin holdings, liquid assets, and equity positions in two companies
- BMNR shares advanced 2.4% during pre-market hours on Monday
Bitmine (BMNR) significantly reduced its Ethereum acquisition activity during the past week, purchasing merely 7,430 ETH valued at approximately $14 million — representing a substantial decrease from the aggressive accumulation strategy maintained throughout the year. BMNR shares experienced a 2.4% increase during Monday’s pre-market session.

This recent acquisition elevates Bitmine’s aggregate ETH position to 5.78 million tokens, valued at approximately $10.9 billion based on the current market price of around $1,879 per ETH. The company now controls roughly 4.8% of Ethereum’s total available supply of 120.7 million tokens.
To illustrate the significant shift in strategy: during May, Bitmine acquired over 111,000 ETH within a single week. During the initial six months of 2026, the company consistently purchased tens of thousands of tokens on a weekly basis.
Chairman Tom Lee directly attributed the decelerated acquisition rate to the company’s share repurchase initiative. The organization allocated capital toward buying back 5.5 million shares at a mean cost of $15.62 through its authorized $4 billion buyback program — representing a total expenditure of approximately $86 million.
“The reduced pace of buys reflects that Bitmine repurchased 5.5 million common shares,” Lee said in the company update.
Lee emphasized that Bitmine has maintained uninterrupted weekly ETH purchases since initiating its treasury approach in June 2025, just over a year ago.
Ethereum Portfolio and Staking Income
The firm’s total asset base reached $11.5 billion as of July 19. Beyond its substantial ETH position, Bitmine maintains 207 Bitcoin, $385 million in cash and liquid securities, a $180 million ownership position in Beast Industries, and a $58 million investment in Eightco Holdings.
Staking continues to serve as a critical operational component. Bitmine has committed 4.92 million Ethereum tokens — representing approximately 85% of its total position — through its proprietary MAVAN staking infrastructure, generating an estimated annual revenue stream of approximately $247 million.
Approaching the 5% Milestone
The organization has publicly committed to controlling 5% of all available ETH in circulation. Currently positioned at 4.8%, the company is approaching this threshold — however, the buyback-focused week demonstrates Bitmine’s willingness to temporarily pause aggressive accumulation when alternative capital allocation opportunities emerge.
The trajectory of future buyback activity versus resumed aggressive ETH acquisitions will likely emerge as a critical metric for BMNR shareholders monitoring the company’s strategic direction in coming weeks.
According to Monday’s corporate disclosure, the company maintains 5.78 million ETH tokens, with 4.92 million currently generating staking rewards.
