Shares of Oklo Inc. (OKLO) experienced upward momentum during pre-market hours following the company’s announcement of its Creative Engineers, Inc. acquisition, a strategic move designed to enhance its sodium engineering capabilities for the Aurora reactor initiative. Trading at $53.39 in pre-market activity, OKLO registered a 1.19% increase after finishing the previous session 5.52% higher at $52.76. This transaction provides Oklo with enhanced oversight of critical liquid-metal technology as the company progresses toward commercial deployment.
Specialized Sodium Capabilities Integrated Into Aurora Platform
Oklo announced that the transaction incorporates CEI’s chemical process engineering capabilities into its advanced nuclear technology platform. The acquisition delivers enhanced capabilities in sodium system operations, fabrication processes, component engineering, and applied research initiatives. Consequently, this strategic purchase directly reinforces technical operations associated with Oklo’s sodium-cooled Aurora reactor technology.
Since its establishment in 1996, CEI has specialized in sodium, sodium-potassium alloy compounds, and lithium-based systems. The firm’s portfolio encompasses cleanup operations and decommissioning projects connected to significant nuclear sodium initiatives. Notable programs include involvement with the Fast Flux Test Facility, Fermi 1, and Experimental Breeder Reactor II.
Prior to this acquisition, Oklo and CEI maintained an established collaborative relationship spanning multiple years. Their joint efforts addressed sodium loop systems, flow measurement technology, pump operations, and specialized sodium safety protocols. Consequently, Oklo has integrated a proven technical collaborator into its core development infrastructure.
Strategic Purchase Accelerates Development Timeline and Reduces Project Uncertainty
Oklo anticipates that CEI will facilitate accelerated design processes and enhanced access to specialized sodium-handling knowledge. The company projects that this acquisition will minimize uncertainties surrounding specialized equipment procurement, testing protocols, fabrication operations, and workforce training. This consideration carries significant weight given that sodium systems constitute a fundamental component of Aurora’s planned commercial deployment strategy.
The Aurora design utilizes a sodium-cooled fast reactor configuration featuring liquid-metal cooling technology and inherent safety mechanisms. The engineering approach incorporates natural circulation principles to facilitate decay heat removal following reactor shutdown. CEI’s specialized sodium experience aligns precisely with Oklo’s reactor engineering requirements and deployment objectives.
The acquisition brings approximately 20 engineers, fabrication specialists, and certified welders into Oklo’s technical and manufacturing operations. According to Oklo, the acquired business contributes positive free cash flow to operations. CEI will maintain its service relationships with existing commercial clients throughout the nuclear industry.
Transaction Expands Oklo’s Comprehensive Nuclear Technology Platform
Oklo specializes in developing fast fission power generation facilities designed to deliver clean, dependable, and economically viable energy solutions at a global scale. The company simultaneously pursues critical isotope supply chain development and advanced nuclear fuel recycling technologies. Its fuel recycling strategy focuses on converting spent nuclear fuel into productive clean energy resources.
The organization holds an authorized site use permit issued by the U.S. Department of Energy for an advanced fission facility. Additionally, it has received fuel materials from Idaho National Laboratory supporting its development initiatives. Oklo has filed a customized combined license application with the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission for regulatory review.
Creative Engineers functions as a specialized process development and skid fabrication enterprise with extensive reactive metals expertise. Its operational scope encompasses pilot-scale research systems, liquid-metal equipment manufacturing, and chemical production capabilities. Through this strategic transaction, Oklo reinforces its Aurora development efforts while incorporating specialized nuclear manufacturing competencies into its operational framework.
