Key Highlights
- According to The Information, DeepSeek’s forthcoming V4 model will utilize processors manufactured by Huawei Technologies
- Major Chinese technology companies including Alibaba, ByteDance, and Tencent have secured bulk purchases of Huawei’s latest chips — amounting to several hundred thousand units
- DeepSeek collaborated closely with Huawei and Cambricon Technologies to modify portions of V4’s core software architecture
- The V4 model is anticipated to debut in the coming weeks, with two supplementary versions currently under development
- Unlike typical industry protocol, DeepSeek has excluded U.S. chip manufacturers from early V4 access
The next-generation AI model from DeepSeek, designated V4, will operate on processors developed by Huawei Technologies, as revealed in a Friday report from The Information.
The publication referenced five sources with firsthand knowledge of the situation.
Ahead of V4’s anticipated release, prominent Chinese technology corporations Alibaba, ByteDance, and Tencent have secured substantial orders for Huawei’s newest chip offerings. These purchases collectively reach hundreds of thousands of individual units.
The model’s debut is projected to occur within several weeks.
DeepSeek, the AI startup headquartered in Hangzhou, has dedicated several months to collaborating with Huawei and domestic chip manufacturer Cambricon Technologies. The objective centered on modifying and validating segments of V4’s foundational code to ensure compatibility with domestically produced hardware.
Two individuals familiar with the company confirmed this partnership.
U.S. Chip Manufacturers Excluded from Early V4 Preview
DeepSeek provided early evaluation access to Chinese chip vendors, including Huawei, prior to the V4 release. American chipmakers received no such privileges, representing a departure from conventional industry procedures preceding significant model launches.
Reuters previously reported on this development earlier this year.
The organization is simultaneously developing two supplementary V4 iterations. Each version is engineered for distinct functionalities and optimized to operate on Chinese-manufactured processors.
Both DeepSeek and Huawei failed to respond to comment requests from Reuters, which were submitted after regular business hours.
Market Impact of DeepSeek’s Prior Releases
DeepSeek’s previous model launches, V3 and R1, triggered significant declines in international technology stocks upon their introduction. Market participants began reassessing whether American AI enterprises required massive capital expenditures on computational infrastructure.
This market response has placed DeepSeek’s upcoming V4 model under heightened worldwide attention.
The V4 system remains unreleased. DeepSeek has not announced an official launch timeline.
Shares of Cambricon Technologies increased 2.67% following the announcement. Alibaba stock declined 1.36% in U.S. markets and dropped 1.49% in Hong Kong trading.
