The NFT marketplace Magic Eden has announced it will discontinue support for Ethereum and Bitcoin NFT trading operations, redirecting its focus toward Dicey, its crypto casino platform. Scheduled for March 9, the shutdown will affect both EVM and Bitcoin marketplace functionalities. Additionally, the Bitcoin API service ends March 27, while the Magic Eden Wallet ceases operations April 1.
Management confirmed that NFT packs—which offer randomized NFT bundles similar to trading card collections—will continue operating. This strategic realignment enables the company to concentrate resources on revenue-generating products while reducing operational complexity. The shift comes as NFT market valuations plummeted below $1.5 billion in February. With trading activity declining significantly from 2021’s peak levels, Magic Eden has reassessed its approach, choosing to emphasize products that complement its Solana foundation.
Ending Ethereum NFT Support
The marketplace will terminate all Ethereum NFT services, eliminating EVM-compatible functionality from its platform. Users will lose access to trading, listing, and related services for Ethereum-based digital collectibles. According to company representatives, this consolidation enables better resource distribution across NFT packs and iGaming ventures.
Ethereum marketplace operations generated minimal revenue despite consuming substantial resources. Leadership disclosed that approximately 80% of operational expenses originated from products delivering merely 20% of total revenue. Eliminating Ethereum functionality allows the company to concentrate on high-yield segments and sustainable expansion strategies.
While discontinuing EVM compatibility, the platform will maintain Solana-based NFT initiatives. Magic Eden intends to preserve community engagement through collectible pack offerings and specialized features. This approach emphasizes operational efficiency and financial viability rather than multi-chain accessibility.
Bitcoin NFT Marketplace Shutdown
Magic Eden has confirmed the closure of its Bitcoin NFT trading services, encompassing both Ordinals and Runes marketplaces, effective March 9. The corresponding Bitcoin API infrastructure will be deactivated later that month, terminating all technical support. The Magic Eden Wallet application faces complete discontinuation by April 1.
This decision addresses the limited user adoption and elevated maintenance expenses associated with Bitcoin NFT offerings. Concentrating efforts on Dicey and NFT packs allows Magic Eden to channel investment toward scalable business models. The transition reinforces the company’s competitive stance within the developing crypto entertainment landscape.
Users trading Bitcoin NFTs must migrate to competing platforms for continued asset management. Magic Eden stressed its commitment to preserving high-performing services while eliminating underperforming divisions. The company’s directional change acknowledges prevailing market conditions and evolving consumer preferences.
Dicey Casino and iGaming Expansion
Magic Eden intends to significantly develop Dicey, its blockchain-based casino, alongside launching a sportsbook for cryptocurrency wagering. Throughout a two-month closed beta period, approximately 200 participants placed wagers exceeding $15 million. This platform merges entertainment with decentralized finance, creating fresh expansion opportunities for the organization.
Company leadership identifies crypto gaming as a substantial long-term prospect given diminishing NFT transaction volumes. Dicey embodies Magic Eden’s transformation toward blockchain entertainment, fusing gaming mechanics, betting functionality, and cryptocurrency infrastructure. The service targets consumers interested in both digital collectibles and online gambling experiences.
Magic Eden anticipates Dicey will enhance user participation while preserving ME token functionality throughout its product ecosystem. NFT packs will persist as an offering, though primary resources will support iGaming infrastructure development. This approach demonstrates the organization’s dedication to financially sustainable operations and innovative blockchain implementations
