TLDR
- Pi Network issues PRC detailing Mainnet ecosystem token design framework
- Token proceeds will be placed into liquidity pools, not project teams
- Working app required before projects can launch ecosystem tokens
- Community feedback accepted through GitHub and Google Form
Pi Network has released a draft framework for ecosystem token standards on its Mainnet and is inviting public feedback. The proposal was published as a Pi Request for Comment, also known as PRC.
The announcement coincides with the first anniversary of the Open Network launch on February 20, 2025. The network stated that community input will guide revisions before final adoption.
PRC Introduces New Token Standards Framework
Pi Network described the ecosystem token model as a structured approach for community-created tokens. The design focuses on product utility rather than capital raising.
According to the proposal, projects must have a working application before issuing a token. This requirement applies to apps operating within the Pi ecosystem.
The framework changes how token proceeds are handled. All Pi committed to acquire tokens will be placed into a liquidity pool. The proceeds will not be transferred to the issuing project team.

Feedback is welcome, and Pioneers…

The network stated that this mechanism aims to support token stability and health. Liquidity pools will operate within Pi’s decentralized exchange features.
Pi explained that many crypto projects issue tokens mainly to raise funds. The PRC notes that such models often lack real product development.
The new standards aim to connect token issuance with active user engagement. Participants may receive certain benefits based on product interaction.
Community Feedback Process Open
Pi Network has published the full ecosystem token design on GitHub. Community members can submit issues or pull requests with specific suggestions.
For users without GitHub accounts, a Google Form is available. The form allows high-level feedback on the proposal.
The network stated that all submissions will be reviewed. Not all suggestions will be adopted, but revisions may follow community input.
The PRC format allows iterative updates before final implementation. The design may also change based on feedback from participating projects.
Pi described the ecosystem token layer as an important part of its Web3 strategy. The network said broad input is necessary before full deployment.
Open Network Anniversary Context
The token standards announcement comes during the Open Network anniversary. Open Network connected Pi’s blockchain with external systems in 2025.
Before that launch, Pi spent six years building internal infrastructure. This period included app development and identity verification processes.
The network reported growth in Mainnet migrations and developer activity over the past year. It also introduced tools such as Pi App Studio and token creation features.
Founders Nicolas Kokkalis and Chengdiao Fan addressed ecosystem plans in a public video. They discussed utility-driven blockchain development and identity verification.
In the video transcript, they outlined the reasoning behind ecosystem token standards. They emphasized integration with real products and verified users.
Expansion of Pi KYC Services
Alongside the token proposal, Pi detailed plans to expand its KYC system. The network aims to offer KYC as a service to external businesses.
Pi stated that the service will not share user data. It will provide identity verification tools for Web3 and traditional companies.
The KYC model combines AI systems and human validation. It also includes sanction checks and support for different regulatory formats.
Pi reported that identity verification remains a key challenge in blockchain adoption. The network said verified identity is necessary for value transfers.
The anniversary announcement also mentioned upcoming community badges and a raffle. Further details will be released in a separate update.
Pi Network confirmed that feedback on the ecosystem token standards remains open. The PRC marks the next step in refining the Mainnet token framework.
