United Parcel Service (UPS) has inaugurated a $100 million distribution facility in Taoyuan, Taiwan, representing the company’s most significant infrastructure investment across the Asia Pacific region. The center addresses escalating logistics requirements from Taiwan’s technology sector, especially the island’s dominant semiconductor manufacturing industry.

Positioned strategically beside Taiwan’s busiest international airport, the Taoyuan location provides optimal conditions for handling time-sensitive, high-value technology shipments. During the facility’s inauguration, Lauren Zhao, who leads UPS Asia Pacific Supply Chain Solutions and Freight Forwarding operations, revealed that high-tech cargo comprises approximately 80% of all freight moving through the center.
Applied Materials (AMAT), America’s premier semiconductor equipment manufacturer, has selected this facility to serve as its central Asian distribution point. Following the announcement, AMAT stock experienced a 3.37% increase.
“Taiwan’s semiconductor sector stands unrivaled globally in terms of technological advancement,” Zhao stated. She emphasized that manufacturing capabilities associated with this industry represent another domain where Taiwan maintains worldwide leadership.
TSMC, globally recognized as the leading contract chipmaker, generates substantial regional logistics demand. The company’s semiconductors power artificial intelligence infrastructure deployments worldwide, establishing Taiwan as an indispensable link in international technology supply chains.
Southern Taiwan Expansion Under Review
Sam Hung, UPS managing director overseeing Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan operations, indicated the company is assessing flight service expansion to Kaohsiung in Taiwan’s southern region. Implementation hinges on validated customer requirements.
Kaohsiung hosts TSMC’s under-construction manufacturing complex, part of an emerging semiconductor production zone in southern Taiwan. Should this industrial cluster develop as projected, UPS may establish additional operational capacity there.
The nine-figure capital commitment demonstrates how logistics infrastructure increasingly gravitates toward Taiwan’s chip manufacturing ecosystem. With TSMC anchoring global AI supply networks, rapid equipment and component movement has become strategically vital for suppliers like Applied Materials.
Applied Materials Partnership Details
Applied Materials designating the Taoyuan center as its Asian headquarters provides UPS with a cornerstone client deeply embedded in semiconductor production. AMAT manufactures the machinery that produces chips — meaning its logistics requirements directly correlate with semiconductor fabrication schedules.
The UPS installation enables both organizations to react more rapidly to fluctuating chip production demands throughout the region. Such responsiveness proves critical when equipment shipment delays can completely stop fabrication operations.
UPS maintains operations exclusively at Taoyuan airport within Taiwan currently. The potential Kaohsiung expansion remains under active evaluation as of March 25, 2026.
