TLDR
- Shiba Inu stays native to Ethereum with SHIB as an ERC-20 token.
- Developers can use Chainlink CCIP to move Shiba Inu tokens.
- Cross-chain transactions burn SHIB, BONE, TREAT, and LEASH on Ethereum.
- Dhairya urges developers to contribute back when expanding Shiba Inu.
Prominent Shiba Inu developer Kaal Dhairya has outlined a strategy for expanding the Shiba Inu ecosystem to other blockchain networks. While the ecosystem remains rooted in Ethereum, Dhairya has emphasized that there are avenues for extending its reach.
In a recent post on X, he detailed the official approach for developers aiming to bring Shiba Inu’s tokens to other chains like Base and Solana.
Shiba Inu’s Ethereum Foundation
Shiba Inu has established itself as a significant project within the Ethereum network. The native token, SHIB, operates as an ERC-20 token, while Shibarium serves as a Layer 2 blockchain built on Ethereum’s infrastructure. Dhairya made it clear that Shiba Inu will always remain native to Ethereum, focusing on the security and functionality provided by the Ethereum network.
However, the developer also acknowledged that for those seeking to expand beyond Ethereum, Shiba Inu’s ecosystem could be introduced to other blockchains. He pointed out that this can be achieved through the Chainlink CCIP platform, which would allow the Shiba Inu tokens to be integrated into other networks.
Utilizing the Chainlink CCIP Platform
To ensure seamless cross-chain adoption, Dhairya recommended that developers use the Chainlink CCIP platform. This protocol enables Shiba Inu’s tokens, SHIB, BONE, TREAT, and LEASH, to be accessed across more than 12 blockchains. Through a lock-and-mint process, these tokens can be transferred from Ethereum to other networks like Solana or Base.
Notably, every transaction within the CCIP system results in the burning of these four native tokens on Ethereum. This burning process is overseen in collaboration with Chainlink, contributing to the ecosystem’s overall functionality and scarcity.
Contributing to the Shiba Inu Ecosystem
Dhairya underscored the importance of using the official channels to expand Shiba Inu’s presence. He cautioned that it is not enough to simply build on other blockchains. Developers must ensure that their efforts contribute back to the ecosystem. Exploiting the Shiba Inu brand without adding value is something Dhairya strongly discouraged.
The emphasis is clear: any development aimed at expanding the Shiba Inu ecosystem should align with its core principles and vision. By utilizing the CCIP platform, developers can help strengthen and grow the ecosystem while maintaining its integrity.
