TLDR
- Pi says all Mainnet nodes must complete the Protocol 21 upgrade by April 6.
- The network states nodes must move to v21.2 to remain connected.
- Pi directs operators to the Pi Desktop app and Pi Node page for upgrade steps.
- The Pi Node page lists the latest desktop application version as 0.5.4.
- Pi Node software downloads are available for Windows, Mac, and Linux.
Pi Network has warned Mainnet node operators to complete the Protocol 21 upgrade before the April 6 cutoff. The notice says nodes that miss the deadline may lose network connection.
In its update, Pi said, “Every Mainnet node must upgrade to v21.2.” The company also directed operators to the Pi Node page and desktop app for instructions.
Pi sets a firm Apr 6 deadline for Mainnet nodes
The new notice gives Mainnet operators a clear date to act. Pi says the Protocol 21 upgrade must be completed by April 6. The message adds that all Mainnet nodes are required to take this step. It also warns that the deadline affects continued network access.
Pi states that nodes must upgrade to v21.2. The same notice says this is needed to “remain connected to the network.” That makes the version change a direct requirement for active Mainnet nodes.
The Pi Node page also lists desktop downloads for users. It offers software for Windows, Mac, and Linux. The page shows the latest desktop application version as 0.5.4. That is separate from the Mainnet protocol version named in the notice.
Pi directs operators to the desktop app and Pi Node page
Pi tells users to open the Pi Desktop app and run Pi Node. From there, operators can follow the upgrade steps. The software is built for laptops and desktop computers. It is not a mobile node tool.
The page says users sign in with the same Pi account used on mobile. That links the desktop and mobile interfaces to one account. Pi also says one account should run only one node. Mobile mining still starts from the mobile app.
The node interface also helps users prepare their systems. It guides the installation of needed technical packages. Pi says operators can switch node functions on or off. It also asks them to keep the software running when comfortable.
Pi says nodes support transaction checks and network consensus
Pi says nodes help validate transactions on a distributed ledger. The project says it uses the Stellar Consensus Protocol. In that model, trusted groups agree on transaction order. Pi links those groups to its wider trust graph.
The page says Nodes verify blockchain validity and submit transactions. It says SuperNodes also help reach consensus. SuperNodes also share the latest blockchain state with other participants. Pi says they need stable internet and round-the-clock uptime.
Pi also lists selection factors for node roles on Testnet. These include uptime, internet quality, processor power, and memory. Security circles and past community contributions are also named. Selected applicants must pass KYC before serving as Node or SuperNode.
