TLDR
- Pi Network confirms successful protocol v19.6 migration.
- Version 19.9 is next before transition to v20.
- Validator3 doubles external connectivity on Mainnet.
- Over 16 million KYC users migrated to Mainnet.
Pi Network has completed its mandatory protocol v19.6 upgrade and is now preparing for version 19.9. The update was confirmed by the Pi Core Team on February 20. The team stated that the “Protocol v19.6 migration successfully completed.” Version 19.9 is described as the final step before the network transitions to v20.
Network Update: Protocol v19.6 migration successfully completed ✅ Next up is v19.9 — the final step before v20. Node operators should make sure they’re upgraded and stay tuned for further instructions: https://t.co/mnbwVzhaD9

Node operators were asked to upgrade and follow official instructions. The rollout follows the February 15 deadline and aligns with the project’s 2026 roadmap. The update also includes infrastructure changes designed to improve network capacity and reliability.
Completion of v19.6 Migration
The v19.6 upgrade focused on node performance and network stability. According to the Pi Core Team, the migration was completed across the network. Nodes were required to upgrade in sequence to avoid disconnection.
The new update improves synchronization between nodes and strengthens data processing. A new server named Validator3 was introduced. It doubles the external connectivity capacity to the Pi Blockchain on Mainnet version v19.6. This allows larger data handling and improved storage capability.
Pi Nodes operate on laptops and desktops instead of mobile devices. They validate transactions on a distributed ledger. Unlike proof of work systems, Pi uses the Stellar Consensus Protocol. In this system, nodes form trusted groups called quorum slices. Transactions are confirmed when trusted nodes agree.
Security circles from mobile miners contribute to a global trust graph. This structure supports the formation of quorum slices. The goal is to maintain consensus across distributed participants.
Transition Toward v19.9 and v20
Following the v19.6 migration, the network is moving toward version 19.9. The Core Team described v19.9 as the final step before v20. Future updates listed in the roadmap include v20.2 and v23.
These updates are part of a staged upgrade cycle. The roadmap focuses on scalability and decentralization. The Stellar Consensus Protocol remains the base framework for the network’s architecture. Adjustments are being made to support higher transaction reliability and potential smart contract functions.
Node operators were instructed to remain updated. The Core Team stated that operators should “stay tuned for further instructions.” This phased approach allows testing before each major release.
Node Participation and Selection Process
Pi Network defines three levels of node participation. These include Computer App users, Nodes, and SuperNodes. Computer App users access the desktop interface but do not run the blockchain component.
Nodes verify blockchain validity and submit transactions. SuperNodes maintain consensus and ensure the ledger remains updated across the network. SuperNodes are required to maintain continuous uptime and stable internet connections.
Applicants must download the Pi Node software and complete installation steps. The Core Team selects participants based on uptime, internet reliability, and system capacity. Security circle data and prior community contributions are also considered. Selected applicants must complete KYC to serve as Nodes or SuperNodes on Testnet.
The Testnet process includes three stages. The Selection Stage tests hardware and network reliability. The Revision Stage involves stress testing and consensus adjustments. The Live Testnet records real transactions using data from security circles.
Mainnet Migration and Ecosystem Growth
Alongside protocol updates, Pi Network reports continued Mainnet migration. Community figures indicate that more than 16 million KYC verified users have moved to Mainnet. Recent fixes addressed pending migration cases.
The project is also testing KYC validator rewards. A broader rollout is expected later in 2026. Development tools such as Pi App Studio are expanding. These tools support payment enabled applications within the ecosystem.
The v19.6 completion comes nearly one year after the Open Mainnet launch in February 2025. With v19.9 ahead, the network continues its scheduled path toward version v20 and further technical upgrades.
