Meta Platforms rolled out its most advanced smart glasses yet at Wednesday’s Connect event. The $799 Ray-Ban Display model marks the company’s first consumer glasses with an integrated screen.

The new glasses pack a display in the right lens. Users can view text messages, make video calls, and get turn-by-turn directions. The screen also shows results from Meta’s AI assistant and works as a phone camera viewfinder.
Mark Zuckerberg positioned the glasses as a path toward “superintelligence.” He told attendees that AI should serve people directly rather than just run in data centers.

The glasses introduce gesture-based controls through a neural wristband. Users pinch their thumb and index finger to select items. They swipe across their gripped hand to navigate menus.
Double-tapping summons Meta’s AI voice assistant. Twisting the hand in mid-air adjusts volume and other settings. The wristband comes in three sizes with 18-hour battery life.
Chief Technology Officer Andrew Bosworth called these “the first serious product” in the smart glasses category. He expects users will keep their phones in their pockets more often throughout the day.
Technical Specifications and Features
The display offers a 20-degree field of view with 600 x 600 pixel resolution. Brightness ranges from 30 to 5,000 nits for outdoor visibility. The glasses record 1080p video and last six hours per charge.
The charging case provides 30 additional hours of power. That’s roughly four full recharges before needing to plug in. The 12-megapixel camera matches previous Ray-Ban models.
Live captions display spoken words in real time with translation support. Video calling lets wearers see their conversation partner while sharing their own view. Users can reply to texts through audio recording or voice dictation.
The glasses will support Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, and Spotify at launch. Instagram will initially only handle direct messages. Meta plans to add Instagram Reels viewing later this year.
Market Response and Analyst Views
Citi maintained its Buy rating and $915 price target following the Connect event. The investment bank sees increased optimism about Meta’s AI glasses strategy. Analysts believe adoption could reach a tipping point in 2026.
Citi was impressed with the heads-up display and neural band integration during hands-on testing. The bank views the glasses as a natural extension of AI technology.
Meta recently invested $3.5 billion in partner EssilorLuxottica. The deal gives Meta a 3% equity stake in the eyewear company. This strengthens their collaboration on future smart glasses development.
The company also updated its screen-free Ray-Ban models. The new version costs $379, up from $299 for the previous generation. Meta cited component costs and margin goals for the price increase.
New Oakley Vanguard glasses target sports users with improved water resistance. They feature 3K video recording and enhanced speakers with deeper bass. The wraparound design includes shooting modes like slow-motion and time-lapse.
Bosworth predicts Meta will sell over 100,000 display glasses units by end of next year. He expects the company to sell every unit it produces. The glasses go on sale September 30 through Ray-Ban stores, LensCrafters, Best Buy, and select Verizon locations.
