Franklin Templeton, a global investment powerhouse managing approximately $1.7 trillion in assets, has forged a strategic alliance with blockchain technology company Ondo Finance to introduce digital token versions of its exchange-traded fund offerings.
These innovative financial products will allow investors to participate through cryptocurrency wallets, eliminating the traditional requirement for conventional brokerage accounts. Users will gain market exposure to American stocks, bonds, and gold commodities via blockchain-based tokens.
Bloomberg initially broke the news, which Ondo Finance subsequently validated through its social media presence on X. Both organizations had not provided immediate responses to inquiries seeking further details at the time of publication.
The operational framework involves Ondo acquiring Franklin Templeton ETF shares and distributing corresponding tokens via a dedicated special-purpose vehicle. Token purchasers obtain entitlement to investment returns linked to these assets, though they don’t hold direct ownership of the actual securities.
These digital tokens function as collateral instruments and integrate seamlessly with decentralized finance platforms. Ondo’s designated market makers ensure continuous liquidity provision, extending beyond conventional market hours to facilitate uninterrupted trading capabilities.
The debut phase encompasses five distinct investment funds, made available through the Ondo Global Markets distribution channel. This platform, which commenced operations in September 2025, presently shows more than $620 million in total value locked alongside transaction volumes exceeding $12 billion across approximately 60,000 active participants.
The strategic partnership further incorporates educational initiatives designed to familiarize cryptocurrency-focused investors with conventional long-term investment approaches in traditional financial markets.
International Markets Take Priority in Initial Rollout
The product launch strategy prioritizes regions throughout Europe, the Asia-Pacific area, Middle Eastern territories, and Latin America. Availability for United States-based investors remains contingent upon additional regulatory developments.
In December 2025, the United States Securities and Exchange Commission concluded an extended inquiry into Ondo Finance operations without filing enforcement actions.
The tokenized equity marketplace has experienced substantial expansion. Aggregate valuation climbed from around $500 million at the beginning of 2025 to nearly $950 million by March 2026, based on information compiled by RWA.xyz. Ondo maintains market leadership with approximately $562 million under management, representing roughly 60% of the sector’s total share.
Competing platforms operating in this space include Backed Finance with its xStocks offerings, alongside Securitize’s services.
Industry-Wide Movement Toward Tokenized Financial Products
During February, Kraken introduced tokenized equity perpetual futures contracts on its regulated derivatives exchange, providing qualified international clients with leveraged positions in American stock indices, gold markets, and major corporations including Nvidia, Apple, and Tesla.
The previous week saw Coinbase roll out stock perpetual futures for authorized non-American users, broadening continuous market access to equity products alongside cryptocurrency and prediction market offerings.
This Tuesday, the New York Stock Exchange formalized an arrangement with Securitize to investigate blockchain-enabled trading mechanisms for stocks and exchange-traded funds. The timeline and implementation details for potential United States investor access remain unspecified.
Franklin Templeton has previously collaborated with Binance on tokenization initiatives and has engineered additional digital asset solutions complementing this recent Ondo Finance partnership.
