Eos Energy Enterprises, Inc., EOSE
Stock retreats despite strong third-quarter revenue performance
Eos reported preliminary third-quarter revenue in the range of $82 million to $83 million for the three months ending September 30. This reflects a year-over-year expansion of 169% to 172%, based on initial figures. Sequential quarterly growth registered between 19% and 21%.
The company’s battery unit shipments increased approximately 23% from the second quarter as manufacturing capacity expanded. Thorn Hill’s newer production line contributed 17% of overall battery output during the period. Eos successfully aligned the first-pass yield rate of this second line with performance metrics from its original manufacturing line.
The firm specializes in domestically manufactured zinc-based battery systems designed for long-duration energy storage applications across commercial and industrial sectors. Its solutions address customer requirements for prolonged electricity storage, serving markets such as data center operations and military installations. Despite accelerating sales, the company continues to report significant manufacturing deficits.
Manufacturing scale-up drives margin improvement at Pennsylvania plant
The company projects third-quarter GAAP gross margins will land between negative 55% and negative 53%. This marks a 16 to 18 percentage point improvement compared to the preceding quarter. Eos has now delivered margin gains for eight straight quarters.
Higher production volumes and declining per-unit conversion expenses contributed to reduced manufacturing losses. That said, the second production line operated with partial shift coverage throughout the quarter. Eos has been recruiting and training additional personnel to accommodate increased volumes and extended operating schedules.
Management intends to implement its final production shift during the fourth quarter following additional workforce preparation. This transition should establish round-the-clock operations at the Thorn Hill site as manufacturing consolidation proceeds. The facility is designed to deliver 4 GWh of total annual nameplate capacity when both lines reach full operation.
Strong order book and liquidity position support multi-year growth trajectory
Cash and restricted cash totaled approximately $344 million as of September 30. The balance decreased from $364 million at the end of June, despite generating $114 million in operating cash during the quarter. Customer advance payments, project-related receipts, and tax credit monetization drove positive operating cash flow.
Eos also drew down $87 million from its Department of Energy credit facility. Capital expenditures totaled roughly $35 million, primarily allocated to Line 2 automation initiatives. The company’s contracted order backlog approached $765 million, representing approximately 3.2 GWh of energy storage capacity.
Six new customer contracts were secured during the period, including a previously disclosed $100 million agreement under an existing capacity reservation framework. Management now expects 2026 revenue to fall within the lower portion of its $300 million to $350 million guidance range. Military applications and ongoing projects with partners including MN8 and Google provide demand visibility as fourth-quarter production capacity expands.
