What Apple Unveiled
The headliner is HomeView, Appleās first home hub. It comes in tabletop and wall-mounted versions, with a 7-inch screen and a speaker.
HomeView is powered by Siri and costs $299. Preorders start now, and it ships Nov. 13.
The rest of the lineup includes a video doorbell, indoor and outdoor cameras, thermostats and a deadbolt lock. Apple built them with LG Electronics or Schneider Electric.
Those products arrive in December, just in time for the holidays. Prices run from $199.95 for the thermostats to $399.50 for the LG floodlight camera.
Apple says HomeView can recognize up to six people in a home. It uses Siri to pull context from iPhone apps such as calendar, text messages and reminders.
The lineup takes aim at Google Nest from Alphabet and Echo from Amazon. Apple also hopes the new Siri features will lift sales of its HomePod speakers, which have drawn a muted response so far.
It is another major release for CEO John Ternus, who took over from Tim Cook in September. He soon oversaw the launch of the foldable iPhone Duo, and the holiday season will be the first test of the new products.
