Lamb Weston Holdings, Inc., LW
The supplier of French fries to major restaurant chains including McDonald’s and Chick-fil-A announced adjusted earnings of 75 cents per share. The figure handily beat the Street’s 59-cent consensus estimate.
Quarterly revenue climbed 1% from the year-ago period to reach $1.67 billion. Wall Street had anticipated $1.65 billion.
Beyond the quarterly beat, Lamb Weston also increased its full-year guidance for fiscal 2027.
Why The Outlook Improved
Company leadership highlighted robust performance in the North American market. Sales volumes expanded as current customers increased order sizes and new business relationships were established.
Operational cost reductions contributed significantly to the improved outlook. The company has closed select production facilities and reduced its worldwide headcount by approximately 4%.
Chief Executive Mike Smith noted the quarter demonstrated “continued momentum in North America” combined with the company’s restructuring initiatives. These dual drivers enhanced segment-level profitability.
Management now anticipates full-year net sales will increase by low single digits. This represents an upgrade from the prior projection of flat to 1% growth.
The adjusted earnings outlook also received an upward revision. Lamb Weston currently expects $3.05 to $3.35 per share for the fiscal year, an improvement over the previous guidance range of $2.95 to $3.25.
A Mixed Picture Beneath The Headline
However, not all financial metrics showed improvement. Net income plunged 55% year-over-year, finishing at $29.1 million compared to $64.3 million in the prior-year quarter.
Adjusted EBITDA declined nearly 6% to $285.6 million. Last year’s comparable figure stood at $302.2 million.
The underperformance wasn’t rooted in North America. International operations drove the weakness.
The company’s International segment posted an 8% revenue decline to $529 million. Segment adjusted EBITDA in that division tumbled 54% to only $27 million, primarily reflecting challenging market dynamics in Europe.
North America painted a starkly different picture. Segment revenue advanced 5% to $1.14 billion, supported by 7% volume expansion.
North America segment adjusted EBITDA surged 11% to $287 million. Stronger sales volumes, operational savings, and $5 million in tariff refunds all bolstered results.
Adjusted net income remained stable at $103 million versus the same period last year. Adjusted diluted EPS edged marginally higher, moving from 74 cents to 75 cents.
The company also lifted its adjusted EBITDA forecast for the full fiscal year. Lamb Weston now projects $1.125 billion to $1.215 billion, compared to the previous range of $1.10 billion to $1.20 billion.
This updated range exceeds analyst consensus expectations, which had centered around $3.01 in EPS terms at the midpoint. Lamb Weston’s revised $3.20 midpoint comfortably surpasses that benchmark.
Year-to-date, Lamb Weston stock has gained nearly 8%, based on Dow Jones Market Data. Tuesday’s premarket rally extends that positive momentum.
The company’s fiscal first quarter concluded with contrasting results across segments. Solid North American execution balanced out European headwinds, and the market appears to be prioritizing the upgraded guidance over the net income contraction.
