The 2027 earnings estimate similarly increased to $414 from $389, while the corresponding 2027 price target held steady at 8,800.

Technology sector leaders delivered 35% annual earnings expansion during the second quarter, an acceleration from the prior period’s 30% growth rate. The broader technology industry beyond mega-cap names exhibited even more impressive momentum with 88% profit expansion.
Looking at the complete S&P 500 universe, 86% of companies reporting results exceeded analyst consensus expectations. This beat rate substantially outpaces the historical average of 67.5%.
Artificial Intelligence Investment Fuels Optimistic Projections
Investment in artificial intelligence infrastructure represents a core element supporting the enhanced market outlook. Krishna anticipates capital expenditures from leading cloud computing providers will exceed $1.1 trillion by 2027, representing a 67% jump from present spending levels.
Google, Amazon, and Meta are projected to spearhead this investment wave before growth rates decelerate to approximately 30% in 2028.
Companies focused on artificial intelligence currently represent approximately 45% of the S&P 500’s aggregate market capitalization. The primary index has advanced 11.55% year-to-date, trading at 7,636.36. In contrast, the S&P 500 Excluding Artificial Intelligence Enablers Index has gained merely 4.48%, illustrating the outsized contribution of AI-related stocks to overall market performance.
Micron Technology maintains a flawless analyst Smart Score of 10 with price objectives implying 57% appreciation potential. Amazon and Alphabet similarly carry top-tier scores with projected gains of approximately 33% and 29% respectively.
Utilities Sector Downgraded While Risks Persist
The investment firm downgraded its Utilities sector outlook to Neutral from its previous Positive stance. This adjustment reflects regulatory headwinds surrounding California wildfire liability legislation and mounting resistance to data center development approvals across multiple states.
Notwithstanding the optimistic price target, the bank maintains a measured stance regarding market valuations. Elevated interest rate levels, persistent inflationary pressures, and global political tensions continue to represent meaningful downside risks.
Under favorable market conditions, the firm envisions the index potentially climbing to 8,350. Should circumstances deteriorate, analysts project a potential decline toward 6,750.
Several prominent financial institutions have similarly revised their projections upward. JPMorgan increased its year-end outlook to 8,000, CFRA advanced its target to 8,050, and HSBC boosted its forecast to 8,100 from a previous 7,650. Goldman Sachs, UBS, and Citigroup all anticipate the S&P 500 concluding the year at or exceeding the 8,000 threshold.
