Shares of Micron Technology (MU) advanced 3.1% to reach $1,030.52 during Wednesday morning trading on September 9, as market participants positioned themselves ahead of the semiconductor manufacturer’s fiscal fourth-quarter financial release scheduled for September 30.
The upward movement occurred despite broader market weakness, with the S&P 500 declining 0.4%. Fellow South Korean memory chip producer SK Hynix similarly posted gains, with its American depositary receipts climbing 4.5%.
Financial analysts are anticipating a substantial year-over-year earnings surge. The consensus calls for adjusted earnings per share of $30.89, representing a significant increase from the $2.84 reported during the comparable period last year. Revenue projections stand at $50.41 billion, approximately five times the previous year’s figure.
This anticipated growth mirrors the extraordinary trajectory of memory chip pricing trends. UBS analyst Timothy Arcuri indicated Tuesday that average selling prices for memory semiconductors should climb more than 20% in Q3 versus the prior quarter.
“We now expect both DRAM and NAND to continue to be undersupplied into 2027,” Arcuri noted.
DRAM represents approximately three-quarters of Micron’s total revenue and serves computers and artificial intelligence systems by managing active data and computational processes. NAND technology addresses long-term data storage requirements.
Strong Institutional Ownership Continues
Institutional shareholders control 80.84% of Micron stock. Denali Advisors LLC established a fresh position during Q2, acquiring 6,380 shares valued at roughly $7.4 million.
Multiple other investment firms expanded their holdings throughout the quarter, including Bellevue Asset Management, which boosted its position by 25.5%, and Mowery and Schoenfeld Wealth Management, which increased its stake by 8.8%.
Wall Street sentiment remains predominantly positive. The consensus recommendation from 38 analysts is “Buy,” accompanied by an average price target of $1,295.63. Barclays maintains the street’s highest target at $2,000, while Wells Fargo elevated its target to $1,525 in June.
Micron’s most recent quarterly disclosure, published June 24, significantly exceeded analyst expectations. The semiconductor company delivered $25.11 EPS versus the consensus estimate of $21.39, alongside revenue of $41.46 billion compared to the anticipated $35.91 billion. Revenue jumped 345.8% compared to the prior year.
Notable Insider Transaction Activity
However, not all stakeholders are accumulating shares. Corporate insiders divested roughly $182.2 million in stock value throughout the previous quarter. Chief Executive Officer Sanjay Mehrotra disposed of 40,000 shares on August 21 at an average execution price of $968.90, totaling $38.76 million. This transaction decreased his ownership position by 13.14%.
Board member Lynn A. Dugle similarly sold 1,300 shares in late June at $1,150.43 per share.
Micron currently maintains a market capitalization of $1.13 trillion, trades at a price-to-earnings ratio of 22.65, and shows a PEG ratio of 0.64. The stock’s 52-week trading range spans from $131.56 to $1,255.00.
Management has provided Q4 EPS guidance ranging between $30.00 and $32.00. Wall Street analysts project full-year EPS of $72.93.
The upcoming September 30 earnings release represents a critical milestone for the stock, with market participants closely monitoring whether contract pricing dynamics, high-bandwidth memory demand, and profit margins remain robust.
