Shares of SanDisk experienced a significant 11.9% rally on Friday, September 5, climbing to $1,740. The driving force behind this movement was the announcement that SNDK will enter the S&P 100 index ahead of trading on September 21.
The memory maker has delivered an exceptional 633% gain so far this year, benefiting from robust demand in AI infrastructure buildouts. However, even with this impressive performance, the stock remains more than 25% off its 52-week peak of $2,354.39. The annual low point stands at $67.86.
Based on today’s trading levels, shares are valued at approximately 8 times anticipated fiscal 2027 profits. This relatively modest multiple indicates market participants may be factoring in potential earnings compression ahead.
The company delivered $6.9 billion in net profit during its most recent quarter, propelled by substantial increases in memory chip pricing. Fiscal 2026 revenue reached $20.25 billion, representing a 175% jump compared to the prior year.
Strategic Contracts Provide Revenue Stability
As protection against cyclical downturns typical in the memory sector, SanDisk has established 10 strategic supply partnerships with eight major data center and edge computing clients. The company refers to these arrangements as its New Business Model contracts.
These agreements obligate purchasers to acquire specified quantities of flash memory over an average period exceeding four years, with some extending to five years. The pricing structures incorporate both fixed and variable elements, with the variable components bounded by minimum and maximum thresholds.
Under worst-case floor pricing scenarios across all deals, SanDisk has secured a minimum of $93.9 billion in aggregate revenue throughout the contract terms. While this represents cumulative rather than annual figures, it provides substantial downside protection for an organization that generated $20.25 billion in revenue last fiscal year.
Additionally, customers have provided $16.5 billion through cash deposits and various financial instruments as security. Should any purchaser fail to honor their commitments, SanDisk maintains legal recourse.
Contract Coverage Expanding Rapidly
Company leadership anticipates these agreements will account for over half of all memory bits shipped during fiscal 2027, which commenced in July. By fiscal 2028, coverage is projected to expand to roughly two-thirds of total shipments.
The committed order backlog continues to grow at an accelerated pace. Remaining performance obligations increased from $41.6 billion in early April to $59.8 billion by July 3. Two additional agreements finalized after the fiscal year conclusion contribute another $31.3 billion not yet reflected in that total.
Chief Financial Officer Luis Visoso indicated the company anticipates “attractive margins even at floor pricing.”
Nevertheless, these pricing floors don’t eliminate all uncertainty. Roughly half of current-year volumes continue to transact at prevailing market rates. Furthermore, the multi-year financial model shared during August’s investor presentation forecasts adjusted gross margins approaching 80% for fiscal years 2028 through 2030, representing a decline from the 84.6% achieved in the latest quarter.
Projections for fiscal Q1 2027 anticipate revenue between $10.3 billion and $10.8 billion, accompanied by non-GAAP gross margins in the 83% to 85% range.
According to TipRanks, SNDK carries a Strong Buy rating consensus from 14 Wall Street analysts, with two assigning Hold recommendations. The consensus price target stands at $2,201.56, suggesting approximately 27% potential upside from present trading levels.
