Shares of MP Materials (MP) advanced more than 9% during Friday’s trading session, reaching $60.16, driven by favorable policy developments and robust financial performance that lifted critical minerals equities across the board.
The Materials sector dominated market performance, posting a 2.09% advance. Meanwhile, the S&P 500 registered a 0.42% increase and the Nasdaq Composite climbed 0.31%.
Friday’s rally was triggered by the Department of Energy’s announcement selecting seven initiatives aimed at expanding domestic critical mineral processing infrastructure, battery production facilities, and recycling operations. The announcement resonated strongly with investors tracking the sector.
This government funding initiative supports President Trump’s “Unleashing American Energy” directive, which has maintained focus on domestic mineral supply chain development throughout 2026.
MP controls the Mountain Pass operation in California, representing North America’s sole large-scale rare earth extraction and processing facility. This strategic positioning provides competitive advantages as policymakers prioritize reducing reliance on Chinese supply networks.
The emerging “Physical AI” sector is generating renewed investor interest in MP’s domestically produced rare earth magnets. With expanding demand for artificial intelligence infrastructure and robotic systems, the underlying materials powering these technologies are capturing increased market attention.
Impressive Q2 Performance Bolsters Momentum
MP’s second-quarter 2026 financial results provided fundamental support for the share price rally. Revenue soared 89% compared to the prior year, while neodymium-praseodymium production volumes increased 51%. These metrics provided tangible evidence of operational progress.
Beyond raw material production, the company is advancing its downstream integration into magnet production and establishing defense sector partnerships, which diversifies revenue streams and reduces concentration risk.
However, MP continues operating with negative cash flow. Substantial capital expenditures for facility expansion mean the company hasn’t yet translated volume growth into sustained profitability. This dynamic warrants continued monitoring from the investment community.
Chart Analysis Shows Strengthening Trend

Near-term resistance emerges around $61, while support appears established near $53.50.
