The consumer-focused Krak platform from Kraken has introduced its debit card product to the American market. Cardholders can receive rewards reaching 2% in either traditional currency or Bitcoin, while accessing funds from over 600 different digital and fiat assets for everyday purchases.
Reward percentages increase based on the aggregate value customers maintain throughout the Krak ecosystem, including Kraken and Kraken Pro platforms. Unlike traditional programs, rewards are distributed as actual currency rather than loyalty points.
During transactions, the card seamlessly converts selected holdings into United States dollars. Customers maintain full control over which assets get depleted first and can distribute individual transactions across different balance sources.
Lead Bank serves as the issuing institution for the Krak Card, operating on Visa’s payment network with backend support from Stripe Issuing. American customers who qualify can access both tangible and digital card formats.
Rewards Without Credit Risk
According to Krak, the product targets consumers seeking reward programs while avoiding debt accumulation. Research commissioned by Krak involving more than 2,000 American adults revealed that 42% of credit card users experience anxiety about settling their monthly statements.
The research additionally showed that 60% of participants would migrate to a debit option delivering substantial rewards while eliminating debt obligations.
Kraken reports more than 135,000 active multi-asset cards throughout the United Kingdom and European Economic Area following their December 2025 introduction in those markets.
The product positions Krak as a challenger to established fintech platforms including CashApp, Venmo, SoFi, Robinhood, and Chime.
Beyond interchange revenue, Kraken’s approach emphasizes customer retention by consolidating more financial activities within its ecosystem, utilizing the card to maintain deposits and encourage platform spending.
Payward Pursues Expanded Financial Ambitions
Payward, Kraken’s corporate parent, continues advancing its broader financial services vision. During Tuesday’s Wyoming Blockchain Symposium, Co-CEO Arjun Sethi discussed plans for diversifying into additional asset categories and financial instruments.
“As you start expanding into multiple asset classes, you’re just generally gonna be less susceptible to very specific markets,” Sethi said.
Sethi identified tokenization as a cornerstone of Payward’s roadmap and drew comparisons between the company’s objectives and those of traditional institutions like JPMorgan.
Kraken operates under a Wyoming banking charter and achieved a milestone earlier this year as the inaugural cryptocurrency firm securing a Federal Reserve master account, granting its banking division direct access to American payment infrastructure.
Coinciding with the card’s debut, Kraken introduced trading capabilities for over 7,000 American-listed equities to customers throughout the European Economic Area.
Established in 2011, Kraken traditionally catered to cryptocurrency enthusiasts, institutional clients, and advanced traders. The organization now prioritizes attracting mainstream retail customers.
