Robert Mitchnick, who leads Digital Assets at BlackRock, indicated that market participant perspectives on Bitcoin (BTC) appear to be undergoing transformation following an extended period of stagnant pricing. During a Monday afternoon television appearance, he highlighted Bitcoin’s emerging separation from traditional stock markets alongside consistent ETF purchasing activity as indicators of evolving market dynamics.
Bitcoin price has remained confined within a range of approximately $60,000 to $65,000 throughout a period exceeding two months. On Monday afternoon, the digital asset was trading around $63,853, representing a daily decline of roughly 2% and standing nearly 30% lower compared to year-to-date opening levels.
Bitcoin Shows Independence From Traditional Equity Patterns
Mitchnick explained that Bitcoin started exhibiting separation from equity markets during the early portion of this year. He observed that this divergence initially disadvantaged Bitcoin as technology sector stocks and AI-focused companies advanced while the cryptocurrency remained stagnant or declined.
The dynamic shifted during July when AI-related stocks experienced a pronounced downturn. During that timeframe, Mitchnick noted Bitcoin demonstrated superior performance, validating its function as an asset capable of moving independently from other portfolio components.
Mitchnick characterized investors utilizing spot Bitcoin ETFs as predominantly adopting long-horizon strategies. He portrayed this cohort as purchasers who maintain positions throughout volatile episodes rather than responding to temporary price fluctuations.
Current flow metrics validate this observation. During the previous week, U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs accumulated approximately $853.5 million in net capital inflows, achieving their most robust weekly performance since mid-April while continuing a five-consecutive-session purchasing trend concluding Friday.
BlackRock Dominates Recent ETF Capital Flows
BlackRock’s IBIT product captured $693.7 million throughout the week. This volume constituted over 80% of aggregate inflows documented across U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs within the identical timeframe.
Fidelity’s FBTC product contributed an additional $116.4 million, comprising approximately 13% of combined inflows. These statistics demonstrate sustained demand despite Bitcoin trading substantially beneath its price levels from twelve months prior.
The recent Coldcard security breach has additionally focused attention on ETF purchasing patterns. According to reports, the incident resulted in the loss of over $100 million in Bitcoin from cold storage solutions, prompting concerns regarding self-custody security practices among certain investors.
Eric Balchunas, an ETF analyst at Bloomberg Intelligence, noted that BlackRock, Fidelity and additional spot Bitcoin ETFs experienced daily capital inflows following the Coldcard security compromise.

He suggested the temporal correlation made a potential connection between the security breach and heightened ETF demand difficult to dismiss.
