Coinbase has unveiled an extensive derivatives trading platform targeting professional investors in the United Kingdom, advancing its “Everything Exchange” vision. The Coinbase derivatives platform delivers perpetual swaps, dated futures, and cryptocurrency options to qualified clients, with phased access beginning over the next several weeks.
The platform operator announced coverage exceeding 170 contracts spanning digital currencies, commodities, equity indices, and currency pairs. Perpetual swaps operate continuously with maximum leverage of 50x, whereas dated futures include specific expiration dates and offer leverage reaching 20x.
UK Market Receives Broader Derivatives Access
Coinbase said its options service will initially concentrate exclusively on cryptocurrency instruments. Qualified professional traders will access call options, put options, and complex multi-leg trading strategies as the platform enhances offerings for British investors.
This deployment stems from Coinbase’s MiFID authorization. The regulatory license permits the exchange to distribute derivatives instruments throughout the UK to individuals and entities satisfying professional investor criteria.
Coinbase has steadily broadened its UK service portfolio beyond crypto spot trading. The exchange recently introduced nearly 4,000 U.S.-listed equities to qualified UK customers, integrating traditional stock markets with cryptocurrency and fiat currency options.
The comprehensive “Everything Exchange” framework encompasses stablecoins, interest-bearing accounts, lending facilities, and diversified financial products. Coinbase positions this approach to deliver multi-asset class access through a unified trading environment.
Diversified Revenue Streams Gain Traction
Coinbase has actively diversified away from dependence on bitcoin spot trading income. According to the company’s second-quarter financial disclosure, 88% of total net revenue originated from activities outside bitcoin spot transactions.
The platform documented that its worldwide trading volume market share climbed to an all-time high of 10.3% during the reporting period. This represents growth from the 9.1% share recorded in the preceding quarter.
Coinbase identifies itself as the most extensively regulated cryptocurrency enterprise operating in the UK. Its operating entity, CB Payments Ltd, functions under authorization from the Financial Conduct Authority for providing investment services.
The subsidiary additionally holds authorization pursuant to the Electronic Money Regulations 2011 for electronic money issuance. Coinbase leverages these regulatory permissions to continually enhance product offerings for both retail and institutional client segments.
