Equity futures in the United States posted strong gains during Monday’s pre-market trading as crude oil prices tumbled and market participants braced for a critical week packed with major economic events.
Futures tied to the Dow Jones Industrial Average advanced 1.1%, representing approximately 551 points. S&P 500 futures climbed about 1%, while Nasdaq 100 futures surged 1.6%.

The upward momentum followed a challenging week for all three primary indices, which declined as escalating tensions in the Middle East drove energy prices upward and intensified concerns about persistent inflation.
Crude Oil Plunge Calms Inflation Worries
Market sentiment improved significantly following weekend developments when President Donald Trump temporarily halted air strikes against Iran, creating space for renewed diplomatic engagement. Sources briefed on the matter confirmed the decision to The Wall Street Journal.
Brent crude futures plummeted approximately 5% to reach $87.13 per barrel. West Texas Intermediate crude dropped 5.5% to settle at $84.37.
The significant decline in energy prices also pushed Treasury yields downward. The benchmark 10-year Treasury yield decreased 4 basis points to 4.64%.
According to Kathleen Brooks, research director at XTB, the temporary cessation of military action has “dramatically reduced the geopolitical risk premium” impacting market valuations.
Federal Reserve Rate Decision Approaches
Market attention now turns to Wednesday’s Federal Reserve policy announcement on interest rates. Based on CME FedWatch tool data, traders are assigning a 66% probability to an unchanged rate and a 34% likelihood of an increase.
The retreat in oil prices may provide the Federal Reserve with additional flexibility, as policymakers have been carefully monitoring inflation metrics before determining their next policy action.
This upcoming decision represents one of the most unpredictable Fed meetings in recent memory, creating significant uncertainty among market participants.
Technology Sector Earnings in Spotlight
Concurrent with the central bank meeting, market participants are preparing for a substantial wave of quarterly earnings releases from technology sector leaders.
Microsoft, Meta Platforms, Apple and Amazon are scheduled to report financial results throughout the week. Particular focus will center on capital expenditure guidance and artificial intelligence revenue disclosures.
The heightened interest in AI-related spending follows recent capital allocation announcements from Alphabet and Tesla that triggered volatility across technology stocks.
Additional companies scheduled to report include Coca-Cola, Starbucks, Procter & Gamble and Arm Holdings. Energy giants ExxonMobil and Chevron will conclude the week’s earnings season.
AstraZeneca and Nucor Corporation will initiate Monday’s earnings releases.
The convergence of a Federal Reserve policy decision, declining energy prices and a concentrated schedule of Big Tech earnings reports creates one of the quarter’s most consequential trading weeks.
