Wall Street futures posted significant gains Monday morning as energy markets experienced a dramatic selloff, offering investors a respite following last week’s turbulence stemming from geopolitical uncertainty and inflation anxiety.
Futures contracts for the S&P 500 advanced 0.8%, while the Nasdaq 100 surged 1.4%, and Dow Jones futures rallied approximately 400 points before the opening bell.

Energy Market Collapse Explained
Brent crude tumbled 5% to settle at $87.13 per barrel, while West Texas Intermediate crude declined 5.5% to reach $84.37. The dramatic downturn followed breaking reports that President Trump has temporarily halted military strikes against Iran to pursue diplomatic channels, as disclosed by The Wall Street Journal.
All three benchmark indices posted weekly losses as escalating Middle Eastern conflict pushed energy costs higher, amplifying inflation worries and complicating Federal Reserve policy decisions.
“Reports that the US and Iran have agreed to a pause in hostilities has been warmly welcomed by investors,” said Kathleen Brooks, research director at XTB.
“This has dramatically reduced the geopolitical risk premium,” she added.
The decline in crude prices triggered a corresponding retreat in government bond yields. The benchmark 10-year Treasury yield decreased 4 basis points to 4.64%.
Federal Reserve Decision Looms Large
The Federal Reserve convenes its policy meeting Wednesday, with considerable uncertainty surrounding the central bank’s next move. Data from the CME FedWatch tool indicates traders are assigning a 66% probability to maintaining current rates and a 34% likelihood of implementing another rate increase.
The central bank’s decision will probably determine market direction for the remainder of the week.
Tech Giants Take Center Stage
The coming days feature a critical earnings cycle from several market-leading corporations. Microsoft, Meta Platforms, Apple, and Amazon are all slated to unveil quarterly financial performance.
Market participants will scrutinize results for indications regarding the sustainability of the current artificial intelligence investment surge.
These earnings announcements could rapidly influence market psychology, contingent upon whether companies surpass or fall short of analyst projections.
Market Overview
Futures contracts signaled a robust market open Monday, with the Dow positioned to climb nearly 1%, the S&P 500 approaching a 1% gain, and the Nasdaq leading advances with a 1.4% increase in early action.
The upward momentum follows widespread declines during the previous week attributed to geopolitical tensions. Market participants demonstrate measured confidence entering a consequential period for both monetary policy and corporate disclosures.
The convergence of declining energy costs, reduced Middle Eastern volatility, and anticipated technology sector earnings has temporarily bolstered investor sentiment.
