Bitcoin experienced a 0.9% decline to $64,139 Monday morning as geopolitical instability and monetary policy uncertainty maintained pressure on digital asset markets. The pullback extended a consolidation pattern that has characterized BTC trading throughout much of 2026.

The primary catalyst was intensifying hostilities between the United States and Iran. Military exchanges occurred throughout the weekend, with reports indicating Washington was expanding its operational targets following the deaths of at least three U.S. military personnel. Tehran retaliated by continuing strikes against Gulf nation targets and American military installations across the region.
These developments triggered a sharp rally in crude oil markets, partially attributed to disrupted maritime traffic through the strategically critical Strait of Hormuz. Elevated energy costs amplify inflation pressures, potentially compelling the Federal Reserve to implement tighter monetary policy.
Market consensus anticipates the Fed will maintain current interest rates at its July policy meeting. Nevertheless, multiple Federal Reserve officials have recently suggested that additional rate increases may prove necessary to combat persistent inflation. Rising interest rates typically pressure non-yielding assets such as Bitcoin.
ETF Capital Returns, Though Momentum Remains Weak
U.S.-listed Bitcoin spot ETFs registered $75.67 million in net positive flows during the week concluding June 17. This followed the prior week’s $197.40 million intake, combining for a two-week aggregate of $273 million.
This brief recovery interrupted an eight-consecutive-week withdrawal period exceeding $8 billion in total redemptions. Financial newsletter Ecoinometrics characterized the reversal as evidence of a “healthier balance” within ETF capital movements, suggesting the pattern represents more than temporary volatility.
Still, the cumulative $273 million two-week figure marginally exceeds even the lightest single-week outflow recorded during that downturn, which measured $226.84 million.
Digital asset research platform BRN advised that market participants should monitor for consistent multi-week positive momentum before determining that institutional investment has meaningfully returned.
Technical View: BTC Remains Range-Bound
Cryptocurrency analyst Daan Crypto (@DaanCrypto) highlighted on X that Bitcoin is completing another weekly candlestick above the Weekly 200 MA. He indicated that significant upward momentum would be required to recapture the Weekly 200 EMA before the technical picture improves meaningfully. In the meantime, he characterized BTC as “just caught in this $60K choppy price range.”
Bitcoin’s valuation has consolidated within the $64,000 to $65,000 corridor in recent sessions, representing approximately 50% below its record peak exceeding $126,000 established in October 2025.
