AI infrastructure provider Nscale announced on Monday, March 9, that it has closed a $2 billion Series C financing round, bringing the British company’s valuation to $14.6 billion.
Norway’s industrial conglomerate Aker partnered with 8090 Industries to lead the substantial funding round. The investor lineup also featured prominent names including Nvidia, Citadel, Dell, and Jane Street.
Established in 2024, Nscale has built its business around owning and operating proprietary data centers, GPU infrastructure, and a complete software platform designed to deliver enterprise-scale AI computing capabilities.
The company counts Microsoft and OpenAI among its client roster, serving two of the most influential organizations driving AI innovation today.
Nscale plans to deploy the fresh capital toward scaling its data center footprint to address surging market demand for AI computing resources.
The funding announcement coincides with three distinguished technology executives joining Nscale’s board of directors. Nick Clegg, who previously held the position of Vice President of Global Affairs at Meta until 2024, will take a board seat alongside Sheryl Sandberg, Meta’s former Chief Operating Officer who departed in 2022 after 14 years with the company. Susan Decker, former President of Yahoo, rounds out the new board additions.
Public Market Debut on the Horizon
The significant fundraise arrives as Nscale advances preparations for entering public markets. The company has secured Goldman Sachs and JPMorgan to serve as lead underwriters for its anticipated initial public offering.
According to Reuters sources from earlier this year, the specific timing for the stock market debut remains undetermined.
A successful IPO would provide Nscale with additional capital resources to navigate intensifying competition within the rapidly expanding AI infrastructure sector.
Strategic Significance of Nvidia’s Investment
Nvidia’s involvement in this funding round carries strategic weight. The semiconductor giant has systematically invested in AI infrastructure ventures that depend on its GPU technology to deliver their services.
Given that Nscale’s entire operation centers on GPU-driven computing infrastructure, Nvidia emerges as a logical strategic investor.
Dell’s participation also reflects its aggressive expansion into AI infrastructure markets through its hardware and enterprise server offerings.
Aker, the Norwegian industrial powerhouse leading the round, has accelerated its move into technology and sustainable energy investments over recent years.
While 8090 Industries co-led alongside Aker, the firm maintains a more modest public presence compared to other participants in the investment consortium.
Despite not revealing specific revenue metrics, Nscale’s $14.6 billion valuation demonstrates robust investor confidence in companies developing the essential physical infrastructure that underpins modern AI systems.
The company confirmed that IPO planning continues to progress, with both Goldman Sachs and JPMorgan actively engaged in the underwriting process.
