Gemini is stepping back from its NFT marketplace business while narrowing its long-term product focus. The crypto exchange has confirmed plans to close Nifty Gateway as it prioritizes building a single platform for users.
The decision reflects Gemini’s move toward a unified super app model. The company aims to concentrate its resources on core services while continuing limited NFT support elsewhere in its ecosystem.

Users holding USD, ETH, or NFTs on Nifty Gateway will receive email instructions. These instructions explain how to move assets off the platform. Gemini stated that all users will have adequate time to complete withdrawals. The company also clarified that no new deposits or purchases will be supported. The focus is now on ensuring an orderly wind-down of operations before the final closure date.
Nifty Gateway’s role in the NFT market
Nifty Gateway launched in 2020 with a focus on curated digital art releases. The platform became known for exclusive NFT drops from artists and creators. These included Beeple, Pak, and well-known brands.
Gemini acquired Nifty Gateway in late 2019. The acquisition marked Gemini’s entry into the NFT sector before the market’s rapid expansion. During its early years, Nifty Gateway helped onboard mainstream collectors.
The company stated, “Nifty Gateway was launched in 2020 with the vision of revolutionizing digital art.” It added that the platform supported dozens of creative drops over several years. NFT trading activity declined across the market after 2022. In early 2023, Nifty Gateway founders Duncan and Griffin Cock Foster exited the company during this downturn.
Shift toward a one-stop super app strategy
Gemini said the closure will allow it to focus on a broader product vision. The exchange plans to build a single application that combines trading, custody, and other services.
“This decision will allow Gemini to sharpen its focus and execute on the vision of building a one-stop super app for customers,” the company said. Resources previously tied to Nifty Gateway will be redirected.
The super app approach aims to simplify the user experience. Gemini has stated that product consolidation remains a priority as competition increases among global exchanges. The company has not announced new NFT marketplace features. However, it confirmed continued support for NFTs through existing wallet infrastructure.
NFT support continues through Gemini Wallet
While Nifty Gateway will close, Gemini will still support NFTs. The company will rely on the Gemini Wallet, which launched in August 2025. NFT holders will be guided to move assets into the Gemini ecosystem. The company said users with balances will receive direct communication and clear steps.
Gemini emphasized customer asset access during the transition. It stated that protecting user funds remains a central focus throughout the shutdown process. By narrowing its product range, Gemini aims to align operations with its long-term platform strategy. The closure of Nifty Gateway marks a shift rather than a full exit from NFTs.
