On Tuesday, Anthropic unveiled Ode with Anthropic, a newly established AI implementation firm. The venture emerged through collaboration with private equity giants Blackstone and Hellman & Friedman, carrying a $1.5 billion valuation.
The investor roster also features Goldman Sachs, General Atlantic, Apollo Global Management, Sequoia Capital, Leonard Green & Partners, and GIC.
Understanding Ode’s Mission
Ode functions as an AI consulting enterprise. The company deploys engineering teams directly into client organizations to assist them in creating and implementing AI solutions customized for their unique operational needs.
The foundation of Ode rests on Fractional AI, a startup purchased by Ode’s investors in May 2026. Before its acquisition, Fractional AI maintained an 11-month collaboration with OpenAI, which concluded when the acquisition took place.
Chris Taylor, co-founder of Fractional AI, now leads Ode as its CEO. Eddie Siegel, another Fractional co-founder, holds the position of chief technologist.
The company maintains a workforce of 100 engineers. More than half bring entrepreneurial experience as former startup founders. Ode characterizes these professionals as exceptional generalist software engineers capable of tackling sophisticated technical challenges while overseeing complete project lifecycles.
According to Taylor, Ode’s ideal client features CEO-level commitment. “A lot of the work that we’re doing is the top one or two priority for the CEO of the company,” he explained.
Ode’s Operational Framework
Ode will collaborate extensively with Anthropic’s internal applied AI division to determine where artificial intelligence can deliver maximum value for client organizations. Meanwhile, Anthropic’s dedicated team will maintain its focus on strategic, mission-critical implementations.
The firm adheres to a “Claude-first” philosophy, prioritizing Anthropic’s technology as the default option. Nevertheless, Ode maintains flexibility and will leverage competing AI platforms when circumstances warrant.
The private equity partners supporting this venture will direct their portfolio companies toward Ode as prospective clients. However, the company’s reach extends beyond these connections, with plans to market services widely across sectors including financial services, healthcare, retail, manufacturing, and software development.
Ode confronts substantial competition. OpenAI has established its own comparable operation named The Deployment Company. Meanwhile, consulting powerhouses Deloitte and Accenture have developed their own forward-deployed engineering capabilities.
Expansion presents significant obstacles. Elite AI engineering professionals remain in short supply, and Ode’s business model requires engineers possessing an uncommon combination of entrepreneurial background, technical expertise, and enterprise product insight.
Taylor has articulated bold ambitions. “It’s pretty easy to imagine this as a trillion-dollar company someday if we execute well,” he shared with TechCrunch.
The organization is currently recruiting engineers, product leadership, and operational talent as it pursues expansion both within the United States and internationally.
